Gus plays like that friend you have who you sometimes talk into playing a game with your normal poker circle. You know he can't play, but you think he might pick it up after a while. He wins the game. He thinks he is better than you. He leaves you wondering whether he might be right. He always calls on a draw and he always gets the draw. He should write a book called How To Get Lucky in Texas Holdem. Everyone would read it, thinking 'I reckon I could learn how to get lucky in texas holdem.'

Gus Hansen is more of an advertisement for poker than Chris Moneymaker. I feel bad for Mike Matusow.

People often think that, but I suspect that Gus is one of the smartest math guys in poker.

Well, he must be. He has an extraordinary way of playing that is so similar to a beginner, its unbelievable. I mean how much stick does the guy get from the rest of the Superstar field? Surely, they - more than anyone - would be able to figure out his method but they seem as perplexed as we are! Johnny Chan is the only person I have seen keep up with the guy when he's at full steam. Ah man, he annoys the hell outta me!

He comes from a professional backgammon background and almost all of those guys are very math oriented.
