One Hand Revealed

Postby shallam1 » Jun 15 2009

In Hansens book "Every Hand Revealed", he discusses a hand where he has a monster draw. His cards are Th9h. The flop comes.....

8h, 7h, 5c

He says he is 43% against a set. Two different hand calculator I use both show 42% against 88. So I am satisfied that is the right answer.

I've tried the calculations by hand a couple of different ways and I keep getting 40%. Although an insignificant difference for practical purposes -- it's inside my head wrecking havoc so I'd like to resolve it and a get it right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without going through the math - there is one thing I would check. Do you still have Hanson winning if he gets a jack or six of hearts and the oppenent fills up? Hanson's straight flush would win. That won't happen often, however (he will get a Jack or six of hearts only 4% or so of the time - and the opponent will fill up fewer than 1/4 of those times, but that would add 1% to Hanson's win percentage.

I definately accounted for Hansen filling up. Wether I did it right or not is a different issue
