Break-even point calculation error?

Postby judd » Mar 17 2011

On page 145, when I factor $8.98 back into the formula, it doesn't work.

($24.75 + $8.98) / $8.98 = 3.76, not 4.1

24.75 does not equal 3.1*8.98; 27.84 does equal 3.1*8.98

It's been over 40 years since I studied algebra. In your reply, could you please expand on the formula so I can refresh my memory?

Thank you and have a fine day!
Judd

Great book! I've already read The Poker Mindset, another great book to help me get my mind right on money management and tilting, and Internet Texas Holdem, 2009, is sitting on the table, ready to be the next book I'm going to read. Also, I bought the 2003 ITH book by mistake, but instead of sending it back, I'm going to give it to someone. Maybe it will peak the person's interest in playing Texas Hold'em, online or live.

I figured it out myself. It's a typo. It should be x = $7.98, not $8.98.

And the formula to remember the break-even point for quick calculation at the table or on the Internet is:

Size of the pot / (drawing odds - 1) = break-even point

For instance, 24.75 / (4.1 - 1) = 24.75 / 3.1 = 7.98

Have a fine day!
