WHO'S THE BEST POKER SERIES WRITER ON THE MARKET TODAY

Postby ROBINHOOD332 » Sep 23 2010

Matt says the following and I totally agree.

To be a successful poker player in today’s world requires that you not only play smart, but be smart in every single aspect of the game.

My question is who's the best poker series writer on the market today that will help
me to become successful and get smart in every single aspect of the game.

Who is the best, most thorough, yet keeps it easy to understand.

What's with all the absolutes? I don't know how many new threads I've seen people looking for magic bullets. How could anyone possibly think there was one answer, one tip, one author.............. It's poker. IT DEPENDS!!!

Find out what you want to learn. Read a bunch about it by a bunch of different authors, and find what's right FOR YOU! Harrington makes a lot of sense to me. Ed Miller's writing makes a lot of sense to me. Phil Hellmuth can't write for shit. Actually, I think the guy he hired to write for him can't write for shit, but anyway...

I think the best thing to do when reading books about poker is to read poker books, and then discuss the contents of the book on forums like this. Or read the forums where people have already discussed the book.

I've dedicated to learning how to play tournament poker well, so I primarily read about tournament poker. A month ago, I started reading How To Win Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time by Turner, Van Fleet, Lynch, and Hilger. Honestly some of the best books I've ever read on the subject, and subsequently, the reason I'm here.

It's all about what you want out of poker. What your goals are. Do you want to play cash or tournaments? Choose accordingly, and devour as much on the subject as you can. Then apply what you've learned to your game. Just be prepared for the consequence of mis-applying what you learn for a while and taking a hit until you get it.

Just have fun.

It depends on what your game is (MTT or cash or Omaha) and it depends on whether "best, most thorough" or "easy to understand" is more important to you. If you held a gun to my head, I'd say Rizen, et al for MTT, Miller for cash and Hwang for Omaha in terms of the overall balance.

If you care more about knowledge and less about easy to understand, Theory of Poker by Sklansky is and probably always will be the best. Every serious poker player should have read it, probably more than once.
