My friends and I often have home game tourneys and have never been sure what to do in the following situation:

We pay the top 3 places. There are 4 players left. Player A shoves for 10000, Player B shoves for 20000, player C shoves for 30000 and player D folds.

Player A has AA
Player B has KK
Player C has 78

The board comes down 22569 with no flush and player C scoops the pot. Who gets 3rd place? Is it Player A as he had the 2nd best hand, or is it player B as he had the most chips before the hand, and as such would still be in the game had Player C not been in this hand?

Most chips @ start of hand takes the place is the standard.

B has more chips-he gets 3rd. Like Hawk said, that is pretty standard.
