SNG starting hands

Postby Texas Gary » May 11 2010

In my SNG tournaments, I use Matt's starting hands for limit hold'em for 9 through 7 players, then switch to a short-handed strategy for 6 through 2 players.

What I've found is that in the 9 to 7 player portion of the game, I can't risk playing a lot of drawing hands. Cash games, of course, are of infinite duration, so I can be patient and wait for the odds to work in my favor on drawing hands (with correct pot odds). However, in SNGs, your time is limited, and playing a lot of drawing hands can lead to quick elimination if you don't fill.

So my question is this . . . if I reduce the number of drawing hands I play in the 9 through 7 player portion of the SNG, and am using Matt's starting hands, what kinds of hands do I add to avoid being way too tight?

Thanks, -- Gary

Gary, I'm not a limit player but you need to post this over in the Limit Holdem Section also I think. You might get a response there. I know you're playing a SNG but usually people post NL ones here. GL!
