How to play trash hands when blinds are low?

Postby KennnyG » Oct 14 2010

Have noticed that playing sit and goes on nine players table, with 1500$ as starting amount. a player will have about 20- 25 hands before the blinds will be 50-100. another 10-15 hands and the blinds will be 75-150.
So your M is decreasingly rapidly.
Does anybody have a suggestion on have to play trash hands when blinds are still low and you have the possibility to limp into the game?
Have tried to limp in with trash hands if possible and also tried to be selective in my hands preflob. But cannot figure out what actually is most recommanded. Both seem to work sometimes.
Kind regards KennyG

I look at my positioning on the table and if I can come in with a trash hand and try to be aggressive and push someone off a pot early - i like to do that. Flip side of that is being the short stack early on and putting yourself in a bad position. I like to play tight aggressive in the early stages, with the exception of one or 2 bluffs.

Trash is trash. At lower to mid stakes sng's, with the blinds low in a limped pot...it is catastrophic to try to push someone off a hand..whether in position or out. People are not folding 2nd pair because they would rather lose chip or be knocked out of a tournament than be bluffed. Fold your trash. You can't outplay someone who doesn't understand the game. Even in teh SB...fold your trash..even with a great price...you will be out of position for the entire hand. Your chips are valuable.... do not waste them on a "I just call and hope to hit". Any trash that you limp in with is probably dominated by at least one other hand that limped in. Tight aggressive is what you want. Fold equity is non-existent at the early stages of a sng. Use your chips later to put your villains to a decision.

Your M is the key. My experience is low stakes, but early on you have time. Your M is decent so unless you have a read on an opponent, no need to get to creative.

That being said, you say its 20-25 hands before you are short chips. That seems a little conservative, but at best you have double that. If you are lucky to get it, 50 hands to build a dominant stack two or three from the bubble isn't much. Position and blind stealing become key here. J-7 isn't much when you are on the button with t1800 and the blinds are 25-50, but when you are on the button with t3000 with blinds of t100-200 and a bb who doesn't like to defend, it becomes a much more playable hand.

To answer your question, don't play trash when the blinds are low and don't limp when the blinds are low. There are times to get creative with 5-4 suited and SNG's aren't it. You can get creative with certain hands, but the name of the game here is to improve your chip standing and the best way to do that is to constantly apply pressure.
I can't dodge bullets.
