BB/100 problems; I'm -1.38....

Postby unibomber » Jul 12 2010

Sorry to ask the question I'm sure you sharks out there would gladly not give me advice and keep taking my money, hehe, but I am trying to improve my results and feel that I have over the last 6 months I know my negative number was far worse before but I'm just looking for any advice I can get from the top players in here...my VP$IP is 17.8% and my w$SD is 60.1% (they used to be 27% and 42% respecfully; yea I'm laughing now too lol) but the problem is my bb/100 and my current earnings. As my stats would suggest I'm almost breaking even, though I have not lost a dollar I continue to go below my original buy in only to shoot ahead a couple hundred dollars just to go right back in the crapper. The positive is I never put more money on the site I have had the same 200 on there for a long time (even cashed 200 one time) but I'm not winning like I feel I should. Can someone give me some advice...if not a point in the right direction is just as good. Love the game but I basically just earn my chips to play another game never really profitting much...booo....ok sorry for long post! Later guys!

Welcome to ITH Uni.

I am confused by several things in your post.

1. It's in the Single Table Tournament section, but you post your win rate in BB/100, which is typically a measure of success in cash games. Are you playing cash games or tournaments?

2. You put a negative win rate (-1.38 BB/100) in the title of your post, but made comments suggesting you are breaking even. Are you getting bonuses or rakeback that augment your winnings to keep you even? If so, will they continue?

3. How many hands (or tournaments) have you played?

If you could clarify these points you're likely to get more (and better) advice.

Happy Flopping!!!
Peace,
Bull

1) I only play tourneys I have on occasion played in cash games but the majority of my stats 90%+ are from tourneys. Also I play a lot of double up tourneys that pay 5 of 10 places. I do play a lot of SnG's though too.

2) the negative 1.38 is also taken from tourneys (unless of course my software package is busted (ie poker crusher). I don't see any bonuses or rakeback at all anymore (after the initial sign up period) I mean perhaps my idea of breaking even makes no sense b.c I myself lack the knowledge to understand what that means. How I define it, is I plugged 200 in the website originally nov 2009 and have never had to go back and deposit more money. I've fluctuated back in forth around 200....sometimes making a few dollars. Biggest cash out I ever made was 400$ then a couple of times cashed 50$. To me that means profit but is the table fee someone working in the idea of "profit" that I'm unaware of?

3) the stats that I provided in this post are representative of 10,200+ hands.

Hope I don't sound too dumb about this...of course that's why I joined this forum :) Hopefully this will help clarify my situation a bit more.

Joe

Your BB won per hand isn't a very useful stat for tournaments. As you know, that measures how many chips you won per hand, and poker is about money, not chips. The only real way to evaluate your tournament play is based on ROI for each buy in, not in terms of "profit" for each hand or 100 hands. Of course they are indirectly related, but that's not the measurement you're interested in. You're only interested in profit. Do you have those numbers?

Hey and this is including everyone above as well. I finally discovered that my roi over 168 games is 6%...is this bad? I have no idea where i stand with it; I assume I need improvement.....Any help would be great! Thanks Guys!

It kicks the hell out of -6%. Whether 6% is good enough for you - only you can say. A profit is a profit. But then even the best can improve.
