$5 SnGs: The sweet spot for idiocy?

Postby Piscivorous » Nov 12 2011

Or simple bad luck?

I've been crushing the $1 and $2 SnGs at Merge, Bodog and Cake. Everything from Bodog's Beginner SnGs which play like a Double or Nothing [except graduated 1-5 pay scale] to 2, 3 and 5 table. It seems to me that these stakes are filled with players who are using them to get better so they can move up. They are also littered with donks without a clue. I've been running at a bit over 30% ROI through 860 this year and decided to move up as I have the bankroll to do so.

I've played only 12 so far and have failed to cash any. That's a -100% ROI for those of you from Rio Linda. Most players I played against at the $1 and $2 levels who weren't good players were sporting -5% to -25% ROIs. I've seen at least 10 players in the $5s with -50% ROIs or worse and 200-500 results.

Seems to me that players at this level simply deign the lower SnGs as either beneath them or full of bad players. That they are willing to play worse than their "inferiors" will make them a gold mine when I start running better.

Anyone with experience in the two levels? I don't think it's an adjustment problem. Maybe they gamble way too much?

What do you do to entertain yourself while waiting the odd hour or two for the tables at Bdog to fill?

They actually fill decently, especially at Bodog. I tend to open up two tables at Bodog, one at Cake and one at a Merge site. Then I put my name in on a 2-table at Merge and on a 27 and 45 at Bodog. I can usually run through 16-20 SnGs in a 5-6 hour sitting.

Of course, I've only just now moved to $5, so I can't speak for +$5 SnGs. I will say I like to play some of the $2-$5 MTTs as well because they tend to be glorified 5-20 table SnGs.
