The HU CLUB

Postby darvon » Aug 08 2007

Welcome to The Heads Up Club.

This thread is to aggregate posts for the specific game of HU Holdem.

This can be Limit or NL or PL. SNG or CASH.

This is NOT for the late goings of a normal SNG or MTT where you might be HU. Those are best covered in the SNG or MTT folders.

First, those of you that play this unusual game, either in the major or minor part of your portfolio, please join the Club. I think there are only a few of us, but one goal of this thread is to find out how many.

Another is to talk about things exclusively HU.

- PS just opened cash HU NL games. Have you tried them? Do you like them?

- Do you have specific strategies for HU SNGs?

- What books are good for HU? Especially when the R is >10.

- What sites do you like for HU?

- What kind of bankroll management do you need for HU Cash?

etc...

Welcome to the CLUB.

I want to join.

I am no expert in HU...but I love it.

We need another ITH HU tourney.

Thanks for organizing this Darvon, and sign me up!

I play low buy-in SnG NL Matches at FTP and Bugsy's Club. I've been contemplating moving up but am having fun developing a number of different strategies at the lower levels.

For newbies I would recommend Bugsy's Club for practice. Their play money HU matches tend to be quite good, better then many low $ tables. Traffic is low but usually it's less than a 5 -minute wait for an opponent. And there's 10k starting chips.

I've played SH limit exclusively for a few years, but knew for a while that all roads seemed to be leading to HU . Normal 6max limit for me is 5/10. Now that Stars spreads HU, I'm more into poker than ever, but with some painful lessons to learn.

Also, from what I've experienced hand examples for comment are of much lesser value, as the game is almost entirely read based. I am hesitant to post anything in the SH forum because of that.

So - I would love to get involved in a HU HH exchange if anyone is interested...individual hands seem too difficult to post in context.

(My first problem is river value betting, which apparently I need to totally rethink.)

Yes. Let's trade HH.

Individual Hands aren't as meaningful.

Let's also talk techniques.

I have one that I like.

If I have am first to act , 2 checks on the flop and turn pairs the board I always pot bet (unless the villian is a slow roller). As I know the new card is SAFE and with one or two high kickers I know that it's still a rat race to pair up.

MANY times people assume the trip and fold. Else they HAVE the trip and rr and I FOLD.

It simplifies my betting.

In the HU SNGs, you need to know ICM and even Nash Equilibrium theory.

I usually drop into almost all pushbotting at r=10, but I do have nash charts up to r=25, which is any stack size at 20/40.

BTW Please temper my comments by the fact that right now my win rate is somewhat lower than a sub-prime Mortgage company.

Okay, I give up. What are they?

That's a good way to win a little and lose a lot. Personally I prefer opponents that do this (I had to look up pushbotting to see what you meant).

I would actually disagree with that. Much of HU limit is about finding just the right balance between betting, raising, calling, and folding with monsters, medium strength hands that want to see a showdown, and semibluffs. This is called trying to play optimally. Try taking a tough postflop decision and outline your own hand ranges.

Unless I misunderstand, usergroups are just PM-based mailing lists. And are not germaine to anything we want to do

When I say join, all I mean is post here that you are a HU player, and I will put your name on the list on the first post. It lets everyone know who is playing HU.

And then we just discuss HU issues in this thread.

I'll try putting some hands together with my thoughts...would love any feedback, just am not sure how much at-the-moment type info I'll recall after the fact.
