This depends on the ration of hands that will bluff the river when you check, vs the number of worse hands that call a river bet. I very much doubt any villain is showing down Kx here so that leaves pairs. It also depends on how often he is going to bluff. Is he stupid enough to fire Kx on this river when you check?

I usually bet this to provide cover for the times I bluff in this spot. However, this balancing act is probably wasted effort in $2/$4 6-max.

It's opponent specific but in general I check the river. I think most pairs would bet again on that dry board on the turn so your probably looking at overcards/air and Ax type hands.

I'm also check raising this river for value and expect to get paid off by weaker aces or the weaker pairs he may have decided to do that strange bluff/value bet line that many players seem to do.

He rolls KQo here. I don't like betting because I hate calling the raise even though I obviously have to. I don't like check-raising because I don't see a hand that I beat calling.

I think it takes a pretty disciplined villain to fold Ax to a river check raise here.

I like the check-raise idea, as he has pretty much no better hands in his range after his turn check (Ak, AQ maybe). He'll call the check-raise with AT, A9, A7-A5 and maybe A2. He may even be calling with Kx putting you on a bluff.

Point is that you have the best hand here very often and can get called enough worse hands. Besides AQ and AK are not going to 3-bet you, as they should still be afraid you have trips. So it's low risk, with enough upside.
