Last stand

Postby Cryuff » Jan 13 2009

Hello to my shorthanded crew,

I'm a newbie to this forum, so if I mess up somewhere let me know.

I need help

I've been playing poker for 3 years mostly live and started taking online poker seriously just recently, studying more, reading books, analyzing hand history and messing around with poker stove. I play both full and 6-max microlimits. I tend to run my buyin of $25 to 200+ in a couple of weeks then stay even for a while and then slowly leak away. This has been happening in both full and 6 max.

I think I am suffering from information overload and misapplying concepts.
I was about to throw in the towel the end of last year. But on advice from my friend, I decided to join a site forum and make 2009 the last stand so to speak. I picked this site because of kpr16, Willem and others, when they explain I seem to "get it".

Anyhow here are my stats to start. I am using a trial of Holdem Manager

Hands 33961
$ $104.45
bb/100 1.23
VPIP% 18.1
PFR% 14.9
3Bet% 7.1
WTSD% 32.5
W$SD% 56.8
Agg 2.98
Agg% 45.5

4Bet Range 3.2
vs 3Bet Call% 76
Flop vs Raise Fold% 35.6
Flop CBet% 87.6
Turn CBet% 64.8
Flop Fold vs Cbet 46
Turn Fold vs Cbet 14.6

PFR/VPIP Ratio 82.6
PF Pos. Awareness 3.57
Steal from Cutoff 22.7
Steal Pct 27.4
Steal from Button 38.5
Steal from SB 21.7
Check Raise 6.1

Thank you.
If I suck in some spots please tell and explain. I'm not good at interpreting stats

For starters, separate your full and 6-max stats, or at least tell us which these are. Maybe 6-max given this is the SH forum, but don't make us guess.

Hi hawk,

Yes this is 6-max, sorry I did not clarify.

This is microlimits .25-.50

Hopefully better 6-max players than me will comment, but 18/14 would seem a little tight. WTSD seems low and W$SD correspondingly high. Perhaps too many aggressive folds especially on the middle streets?

Welcome,

Playing 18/14 is very tight, even borderline nitty. Something like 24/16 would be better. With decent postflop skills, you can go even looser than this. I am playing something like 35/23 (for 5-6 handed play). However, I will also have to tighten up on lower limits because people are looser there. Many of the hands I play don't do well in multiway pots, like A7o. Do you have the book from Stoxtrader, and/or Borer, Mak? Following the charts from these books will make you play something like 24/16. You can also use the chart from Matthew's new book, which is a bit looser.

As far as postlop, a WTSD of 32% is a bit low. Mine is around 40% but most of my hand are HU after the flop. When you have multiple opponents, you need a stronger hand and therefore fold more often, lowering your WTSD. I don't know what would be optimal for the micro's but I think you fold a little bit too much. Your aggression factor is also a bit high, which is probably a result of folding too often, and raising for information.

I can't say anything about the other stats. A stat like "Fold vs cbet" is quite useless as that depends on many factors (like how many opponents you have, their position).

Thanks hawk,

Those aggressive folds may be a result of folding middle pairs and overcards on the flop or turn. I have a hard time with players who use donk bets, which seems to be very popular at microlimits

Hi Willem,

Yes I do have Stox's book,

In the past when using the chart I would go into Holdem Manager to see whats profitable at what positon. I sarted taking hands out, before learning how to play the hands properly and adjusting to the more aggressive, tricky online games.

I am adding hands in my lineup as I get better with my post flop game.
I am trying to find spots to call down, most books advocate folding middle pair at any sign of resistance.

Stox's charts are already on the tight side. I wouldn't take out hands there, but add more hands instead as your skill increases. But you don't really have to get looser in the micro's, so don't worry about adding hands.
