Using HEM to find leaks/strengths

Postby DeltaChaos » Sep 14 2010

I recently coughed up the $60 for Holdem Manager. I play tournaments pretty exclusively and I've set up my HUD config and associated popups. . It's pretty, and it delivers the information I want. Great...

I'm not really interested in using the software to track my results. I can do that with a spreadsheet for free, and I kind of pride myself on not being results oriented.

What I really want to do is learn how to analyze my play with reports, but right now it's a little daunting. I'm having a hard time breaking the learning curve of report creation. What I really got the software for is being able to tell where I'm winning and losing the most chips - in what situations, with which hands, in what positions... what betting lines am I exploiting without realizing it, what betting lines am I being exploited with. Those kinds of things.

I have a hand sample of about 33K, 14K of which are tournament hands. I would like to be able to compare my play of today with my play of pre-4 months ago when I decided to really start working on my game.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Delta - read some of your stuff in the MTT forum and liked it. I'm currently using PT3 and am looking to do some of the same things. I really want to get a handle on my spew tendencies. When I can control them, I do fairly well. When not...
Have had some issues reviewing certain things in PT3. Mostly I can figure it out after I fool with it a bit. Also keep running into interesting tidbits that are quite informative. Which actual hands (eg, AKs) are winning, losing me money. How I'm doing by position (and hand, combined) etc... It quickly showed me how much I am bleeding from the blinds. I just haven't broken the BB (big bets) versus Big Blinds problem yet. Haven't ventured into building reports yet - similar experience with confusion, but likely will soon. Know it is different software, but I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with. One thing I'm frustrated with is that it analyzes you in the aggregate. I haven't figured out how to break out segments of the tourney when I typically change strategies.

I'm lazier than you I guess - and will admit, I like positive results. I am just tracking my results on OPR - let someone else do it for me. Especially since they are doing it whether I look at it or not. Plus it lets me see nice stuff about other folks (like you!). I recommend it if you haven't looked at it. We play in similar games, although according to PT3 we've never played one another. PM me if you want to dialogue. I'd love to hear what leaks you are finding and if you might want to swap advice. I've got 4 days left before I bite the bullet and pay for PT3, so want to know if I'm making a mistake not getting HEM at least!

Went on vacation for a week. Haven't played or even thought about poker for about 2 now. Looking forward to some good sessions soon, but I tried to figure out some HEM stuff today. Totally perplexed. All I wanted to know was my finish rate and place finishes in the last 10 days before I went on hiatus. Couldn't even figure that out. AARRGGHH!!!
