Pacific are the sister site of the World's biggest online casino - Casino-on-net.

You would therefore assume that they are full of casino players, who just want action and will gamble with any cards, whereas Poker Stars is a poker room full stop, and tends to attract people more knowledgeable in the game.

Perhaps....

I just played Pacific for the first time tonight. Thought it was OK, but not as good as UK-Poker.co.uk (what I consider my 'home' site).

I agree that the graphics are a bit ropey and that the players are not up to much. The most annoying thing was not seeing a face card in the hole for over an hour so couldn't take advantage!!

That said, I imagine with OK hole cards, and Matthew's book by your PC, you could be onto a winner!!

pacific poker players beware

Postby sammy » Jul 28 2004

pacific poker has a computer glitch, here's how the story goes i was playing a $1.00 tourny the other night $1000.00 guarenteed 557 players entered made it to top 11 players now this is where the horror story begins. was in 11th place with about 19k, 5th had about 21k blinds were $1,500/3,000, KK all in 19k everyone folds except for last player who was $500 ahead of me, there was a long pause, no money was ever decucted from the other player flop comes guy has A8 offsuit get A on the river and my money, done 11th place $10.00 prize money whoo hoo.

called 24 hr support listen to their response....yes sir we are aware of what happened and we can see that no money was deducted from the other player and we are aware of this glitch our tech have been working on it so what we can do for you is refund your entry fee total winnings $11.00 man do i ever feel like i have been ripped off, does that sound like fair gaming.

is there anyone out there that has had something like this happen to them and is there anything i can do, thanking everyone for their suggestions in advance

Just joined on Friday for the fat 100% bonus. Deposited $200 and got a $125 bonus (no idea why). Played three days at 5/10 off and on until I wagered $2,500 to clear the bonus. Cashed out over $800.

Players are astonishingly terrible. Truly the poorest play I've seen anywhere. 70% seeing the flop with an average pot of $110 at 5/10. Unbelievable.

As listed earlier, the software is very poor. Frequent disconnects, making me miss a hand, probably four times in three days. Hand history functionality is very poor. No way to see what hands called you on the river! SS LL OO WW software.

However, I forgive all because it is easier than a trip to the ATM.

I'm not quite sure how to rate this website because the pros and cons are both pretty extreme. The pros are that the play is absurdly weak and there are usually several games running at each limit for most of the day. The main drawback is that it is literally impossible for me to stay connected to the server during peak hours. I have rarely been able to last more than ten minutes at a time before getting booted. I sent an e-mail to their customer service department and got a form letter saying that they were overwhelmed and probably would not be able to resolve my issue any time soon. I've stopped playing altogether between the hours of 3 and 11 PM PDT, but of course this is when I have most of my free time, so I'll probably end up cashing out and playing elsewhere.

Also, you have to wager $2000 to earn the $100 bonus, which takes a long time if you play the lower limits (I'm still working on it).

Basically, the site is great if you are okay with only playing during off-peak hours. Otherwise skip it; there are plenty of other online poker sites.

I like Pacific and would highly recommend it if you're in the game to make money. I must be lucky in that I hardly ever experience disconnects of any description - although I have, it must be said, experienced a major technical glitch on one occasion:

About 40 minutes into a $10+$1 SnG, the tournament essentially stalled into a 26-hour intermission. The seasoned veterans amongst us stated that a simple email to customer service would be enough to get our entry fees reimbursed. I happened to be the last person to leave the table, and my bankroll was credited with $50 as the "winner" . Well, I duly emailed customer service stating how I'd be happy to forfeit the first prize, but that I would like to at least have 2nd prize (since at the time the tournament stalled I was 2nd out of 6). Yes yes, I know, a more "advanced" and fair solution would be to proportionally divide the prize money based on stack sizes, but this is Pacific we're talking about  .

I then received a generic reply stating how the tourney would be canceled and how we'd all be reimbursed our entry fees. My proposal had clearly been disregarded altogether. Oh well, if they want to give me this windfall as a token of goodwill and/or remorse, then fine. So it was that five players were reimbursed their $11, and one lucky soul left with $50 and a perfectly clear conscience. 8)

I rated it a 2 as I positively hate this site!

Admitedly I was playing at the low end of the scale (.25/.50) so I might give it a go again once I'm playing 3/6 and above. It does sound like the action at the higher levels might be better.

I just found I couldn't win consistently with the type of players you get at .25/.50. I wasn't enjoying the games and have just cashed out.

The software is awful and just isn't good enough. It's slow and clunky and just doesn't have the features of the other sites. You can't even turn the annoying sounds off which is highly irritating. You can't play on 2 tables at once and if you open another site at the same time, on my rather mediocre system, it seemed to slow down even more. I've had no such problems with any other site.

And as for the cashout process, what a joke. Being based in the UK I had to accept a bankers draft. This takes something like upto 28 days to come through. Ouchy.

So no, I can't say I enjoyed my Pacific experience.

Gravy, I lose the audio input about half the time I play. While that is an overall positive it also means I can miss the warning buzzer if I am getting close to the all-too-short time limit. With all the glitches I'd lower my rating to a 4.

These things have probably been noted by others, but just wanted to add my .02 now that I've played on Paradise.

Here's why I left Pacific.

1. No player notes
2. No interface with Poker Tracker
3. Slow software.

When I started, it was my first REAL $$$ site and it was great. Sort of like that first boyfriend........he was great, till I knew the difference.

I know that Pacific is known to have slow, clunky software but for the last week or two I've tried PokerRoom out and have only averaged about 40 hands/hr at .5/1 and 1/2 full tables. My average at Pacific at the same levels of play over the last few months is about 47 hands/hr. Any explanation? How many hands/hr do other sites average at the .5/1 and 1/2 limits?

Miket, I've seen .50/$1 at Royal Vegas go from 38 hands/hour up to over 60h/hr, and had a full ring go at 35/hr at UltimateBet. Some of the difference may be the software/interface but it may just be the player mix. I believe PP's servers are slow, but the time limit to make a decision is very short compared to UB, so av. hands per hour may come out the same.

I guess it depends on how much time you prefer to have for your decision making, or time bluffing.
