No chat for me from now on !!

Postby Llanlad » Apr 06 2008

Hi all

Its common knowledge that i suffer from all kinds of mental tilt when it comes to poker ... so lately ive been trying to address a few of these ..

Been going ok actually .... ive been fairly quiet on the implodes lately ... :D

But lately .. ive been ****** against the wind so to speak when it comes to much poker profit this month ..... you know the way ... once step forward .. two steps back ..

The other day .. I had managed to be up 2 buy ins .. when the over aggro button got clever against my KK in the SB and we got all in preflop with his AQ ( not sure what he expected to beat preflop ... ) but it was a big pot and his turned the ace ..

Now thats not too bad .... apart from the fact it wiped out my profit for that session ... ( seems the way lately ) ... but his comments after the hand ... got me to mentally implode again !!

Sooooo ... ive decided to ban all chat !! .. Im one that does chat .. and can be easily distracted on the poker tables by a good conversation ... or a bad one even :?

So .. now im trying the no chat option ... I can see no chat whatsover .... i allways thought it was rude not to respond when someone said " wp " or " nh " .. but now i think its not an issue !

Anyone else do this " no chat " rule ...? and does it help ? ... Ive started a new ipoker skin and so nobody knows me ... so thats good ..

I know most can chat and still play ok ... but it seems .. not me .. i quickly get involved in stuff that can affect my poker mentality ...

Worth a try i suppose :D

I usually have the chat turned off. Too distracting and too small to read.

Try hanging out in the IRC channel for some idle talk while playing.

I loved chatting, but I'm banned now. I think it helped because I could put people on tilt by using some good creative insulting commentary, then only play good cards knowing they would want to play back at me.
I'm better, dude.

I agree that chatting is distracting.

The fun part that I have found is whan NOT responding to someone it can actually put THEM on tilt. :D

Its fun watching someone type line after line and end up losing hand after hand by not paying attention to the hands they were playing(ignoring?)
Why should I worry about not having a 6-pack, when I'm carrying around a Pony Keg?

I don't participate very often but I do like to see what others are saying. You can gain a lot of information about your opponents through chat. If you feel that chat conversation is tilting you then I do think it's a good idea to shut it down though.

Even though im not doing much chatting ... i do now have the chat box open so i can see what others are saying ..

The only difference now is i dont get involved in a conversation .. I might make the odd comment ... but as soon as i feel im about to get chatty again ... I give myself a slap ..

Im also not getting baited by the odd comment ... I grit my teeth when someone says thanks for the money when they 2 outer me on the river ...

Im listening to music on some head phones when i play now .. so im concentrating more and not getting distracted ...

Rome was not built in a day and all that ... :D

I was playing a table the other day when 2 "Show n Tellers" got together. Every hand and action was being discussed in detail. It's really wierd seeing it online. You also had this other guy joining in occasionally. Either his English was really messed up or he was completely mad. It was like talking to someone in a parallel universe.

A surreal experience for sure, and ultimately a bad one as I lost focus and went out with a dumb play.

I should just stick to nh and gg in future.
