Learning How Tilt Affects Me

Postby leofric » Dec 21 2009

Having
started playing a little NL cash recently (only 0.05c/0.10c) I noticed
after my first fairly big downturn how tilt affects me.

I don't go all aggressive, shoving over the top of a raise and re-raise
with 72o, rather I go the other way and almost give up on every hand
before it starts.

Specifically I noticed:
No more calling raises in position with medium PPs. No point in set mining when you never hit!

In fact very little calling raises at all! (Usually I play six handed so some level of aggression is necessary)

Very few if any continuation bets

Being too quick to drop an open ended straight or flush draw. The odds were there so I should be calling

Not being willing to slow play at all. One of the few good hands I
did get was a Q high rainbow flop when I'd raised with QQ. Heads up I
could have afforded to check this and let him catch up but mindful of
all the outdraws I led out with a pot sized bet.

In short I'm playing sub optimal poker since I've now become too
unwilling to take a risk or be aggressive. Ok so I've still found that
my best remedy is to take a break for a week or so and by then I'm
starting afresh. But I really can't complain that all my losses were
down to bad luck. The only thing I can do now is compare my play the
next time I hit the preverbial brick wall and see if I've learnt
anything from this.

Incidently anyone who has seen me play cash 6 handed would probably
quite correctly point out I play sub optimally all the time anyway!!
To infirmity and beyond
