Can Mr Happy finally beat his poker demons ??

Postby Llanlad » Oct 31 2008

Hi all ..

As some of you may be aware of .. Ive not had a poker rant for a while now .. good yeah ????

But thats mainly because ive not played any poker

So lets see if i can tolerate this damn game called poker without imploading all the time and making me a rather miserable git ..

Ive been practising a little playing 16 tables ... ( blame toro ) and thats what im going to to in November .

Due to my total lack of discipline when it comes to poker and the failure not to take every bad session as a personal insult ive only ever managed to play a record 24k hands in a calender month .

My aim for November is to play 70k hands without imploding once ..

Ive dropped down to $50nl FR to get used to playing so many tables and basically to get back into the swing of poker ..

Im pretty sure ill have a few bad swings if i play this many hands and the plan is not to let it bother me ..

Just to prove i can do this .. i will keep a daily update of my progress ..

Any side bets on the outcome ?

I've also got an implosion problem, which generally comes from not winning. When I have long stretches without a decent hand I'll start doing stupid things like making genius reads and shoving all in with air, only to find that the guy wasn't trying to represent trips, he actually had it.

I've always thought that by playing more tables, you're bound to get decent hands more often, which would sate my desire to do something crazy.

That said I can't handle more than four so I'll continue to make crazy all in moves.

Maybe the poker gods are warning me against playing, this morning the wind blew a tree down in a near by field and landed on a electric pole .... hence we had no electric for 6 hours !

Just managed a quick 500 hands ... nothing special but did lose with AA v A7 all in preflop ..

I knew something was wrong when the table returned and me stack was down and someone had quoted " cruel " in the chat box

I checked after and he flopped and rivered a 7 .. :?

Will put in a bigger session later ..

Things have not gone to plan

Ive only managed to play for 3.5hrs but this will increase from Tuesday ..

Managed to play 1840 hands and im up $1.84 ( $50nl ) ..

Its all been rather slow on the draws etc ... but i feel ok ... grumbled a little earlier .. but not too bad ...

Having a slight problem with my PT3 HUD because the layout goes wrong on random tables .. which is quite annoying ..

Managed to get upto 14 tables without much problems ... should reach 16 on tuesday and put in some decent sessions ..

Not much happening on the tables .. but at least im not moaning .... :D

Im so holding back a rant here ..

Just been pwned big style .. i dont like 16 tabling either ..

But worst of all ... i dont like PT3 .. its still not the finished article and its been out for months.

What about Holdem Manager ... is that better ?

I hit the flop twice in this mad session .. once with J9 when i flopped a straight only for the other guy to have the same hand ..

And AA when i flopped a set and got reraised all in on the flop ..only for friggin PT3 to decide its time to pack up again .. and it folded my hand and just about every hand for 4 mins after ..

I could not even restart PT3 untill i closed all the tables .. so ive decided not to bother playing again tonight ..

Let it all out, change your sig and at last all will be right with the world again. Bottling it up is just unhealthy :D

:D That damn AA hand got the better of me ... just could not shake off the feeling of injustice !!

Im going back to 8 tables .. .. just cant cope with 16 tables, especially if PT3 starts to play up ... its just bound to start me off !

I just prefer the HUD stats on PT3, there are more choices like 3 betting stats etc .

Im fairly ok now with PT3 as long as i dont start messing about with it when im playing .. that seems to be part of the problem ..

In fact .. ive stopped doing just about everything when im playing poker now ... no checking to see how im doing, no chatting and no reacting !

Just inputed my hands from my latest screen name on ipoker onto PT2 just to try out pokerEV ..

I ran pretty well at $100nl but only played 729 hands so not worth adding them, but ive played about 11k hands at $50nl to try out playing more tables ..

here is the graph .. ive have no idea what im suppose to be looking for .. so any pointers would be appreciated .

I typically look at a few things.

Just for running bad/good you can look at the blue/red lines. If the blue line is above the red line you're running above equity in Showdowns, if it's below then you're below equity.

In the analysis tab you can sort by biggest pots and look whether you were ahead or behind on most of them, it also let's you just see the major hands you played instead of having to scroll through PT looking for them.

On the Stats tab I typically just look at the #s and don't spend much time on it, but it's just a summary of what the Game Analysis Graph tab will tell you.

In the GAG tab I like to actually look at the scatter-plot and then look at the outliers and see what happened on those hands, looking at "bet vs SB" will also let you look at outliers (that scatter-plot looks like this: '<')

In the luck graphs tab I basically just check the net luck line. They also recently put in a thing where you can look at a normally dist. probability graph that basically just tells you the likelihood that you would've won/lost this amount of $$ (not quite sure how they figure it out).

However, it's important to remember that this program just measures one type of "luck". It completely ignores such things as how often you flop sets, get into hugely dominated situations where it's impossible to fold (e.g. quads vs str8 flush) and other such stuff. It's mostly just a good reference point. To tweak your game it definitely makes more sense to check out PT stats.

Bloody balls i say ... there is no friggin justice in this world ..

Just played another 700 hands at just got bloody nothing ...and then to compund it all ... which friggin happens often with me .... I get pwned in two hands ..

I was having a lively game with some aggro player who was 3betting me a lot, so i started 4 betting him light .. this was going on for ages untill ..

He flops a set with 99 against my ladies and i dont hit my open ended flop draw either ..and the very next hand he has KK v my ladies again ..

The 2 biggest pots i won in this session where both all ins preflop against the same short stacker ..

Down a friggin buy in again ...

God damn hate sessions like this ... get eff all and cant hit any draw whatsover but still grinding out some profit only for the poker gods to stitch me up again ..

Im gonna fold everything from now on unless its the nuts becuase i cant win $hit if i get my money in with anything less..
