Online Poker in Washington state

Postby Martio8 » Nov 13 2010

As everyone here already knows, the US government has made providing internet poker illegal.
My understanding is that it is not illegal to play online though.

A while back, the Indian Casino lobby pushed through a law to prohibit playing online in Washington state.
Up till now I've just been practicing civil disobedience and playing anyway.
Rec ently, Pokerstars and now (Full Tilt) have decided to stop serving residents of Washington.
Anyone know an online site that will still take Washington players?

In their explanation, Full Tilt metioned several times that you can still play if logged on from another state.
Anyone know a process to route the connection through a different state for logging in to an online site?

Understand that I don't play on them so I might be wrong, but try UB, AP, Cake, Doyle's Room, or Bodog.

If the sites (Full Tilt and Poker Stars) have your address on file, not sure getting around the ban would be possible or smart.

I hope you are doing more than just trying to find a way around the ban. You need to join the PPA and write the politician, Prentice, responsible for your predicament. Let her know that you disagree with her position and will not be voting for her if you live in her district. If you don't live in her district, but have friends and/or relatives that do, tell her that you will be spreading the word not to vote for her. I would not tell her you are a online player, though. Tick her off after having given her that information and you could have the WBI (or whatever it is called) knocking at your door.

Finally (and joining the PPA will help in this regard), find out how you can help overturn the law.

I wrote to officials in Washington to make sure contributing to a campaign would be legal and here is the response.

You may give a contribution to a Washington State Legislative candidate. Legislative candidates have a contribution limit of $800 per election. Per election, meaning one contribution limit for each election in which their name will appear on the ballot. You may give $800 for the primary and general now.

There is a federal limitation on who can give campaign contributions. We don’t enforce this, but we do share it with those wanting to give contributions. You must be a U.S. citizen or have a green card.

In addition, if the individual running again Senator Prentice is also a current state elected official they will not be able to collect campaign funds during the legislative session freeze. This freeze period begins 30 prior to the start of the regular session and ends on the date of adjournment. If there is a special session the freeze will be in effect during that special session. The regular session freeze begins December 11, 2010.
