kids playing poker

Postby worriedparent » Jun 20 2009

:( i recently came home on a trip to encounter that numerous accounts had been opened up in my name after looking into my checking account i discovered that i was out several thousand dollars once i found out about this i was very upset yes i did find out who opened up the accounts it was my fiances son who was living with us at the time with him only being 17 yrs old i am now left with a decision of what actions to take i have tried reaching the poker sites to discuss this matter but they want none of it they said the proper imformation was provided and thats it after doing more investigation i am finding that i am not the only parent facing this type of situation it seems so easy for anyone with someones check/debit card or check to open up an account and before one knows it your out quite a bit of money once they have done this on numerous sites though i really dont care which way the gambleing issue goes for the internet i really think there needs to be more measures put into place to prevent this type of activity to happening in the future

There are already robust measures in place to protect you from fraudulent echacks. You simply need to report this to your bank and they will return your money. It is no different that someone who uses your check information to write forged checks or a person in your house who signs checks at Best Buy. You just report it to your bank and they must return your money. It is part of what banks call "Regulation E" and they should know exactly what to do.

They will pursue criminal charges against your fiance's son, however.

As what i have known, 17 is not yet a legal age to play poker. You should discipline your fiancee's son or report it to the police. Let them make the proper actions on what to do with him.

In this case poker is no different to anything else he could've spent the money on. Onlne casinos, betting, shopping etc. It's identity fraud, and not a specific poker issue.

If you want to take the steps to reclaim the money then your fiancee's son will quite possibly face criminal charges, there's no way around that.

How did a 17 year old enter o n any online poker site? If that guy uses his parents or friends account, what should be the possibility to have the money?
