Small Stakes No Limit Hold’em by Ed Miller

Postby Polar_Bears » Apr 19 2009

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this, or has heard much about it: http://www.notedpokerauthority.com/news/announcing-small-stakes-no-limit-holdem-%E2%80%93-the-affordable-poker-ebook.html

I have read some of Ed's articles, but none of his books yet (although I do have a copy of Professional No-Limit Holem: Volume One that I am waiting to read). This "E-Book" is something I have never bought before or have even heard of. "The book price will be $99.95. We are going to offer preordering soon at a special discounted price of $39.95. This is the affordable poker ebook." Obvious if it is going to jump that much in price, I am wondering if I should jump on it while it is at preorder stage.

They make a lot of claims and promises throughout the advertising including this one, "If you can learn to beat an online $1-$2 6-max no-limit game, then you can handily beat 99 percent of all no-limit games in the world."

I am just trying to figure out if it is really worth the buy for when they start accepting orders.

Any thoughts??

Hi Polar_Bears,

Let me make your decision easy for you. You get a free copy. Email me at mflynn3@yahoo.com to collect.

I will post the complete table of contents once Ed is done with his final pass. He should be done in a few days. Sunny and I are finished. Our graphics design team is already working on layout and cover,. The day we finish, it comes out as an ebook. This will be in May. The paperback version will come out a few weeks later.

The table of contents will speak for itself. Almost every concept is example-driven with hands taken from $1-$2 6-max on FullTilt. You get VALUE. It is aimed at today's game going on right now on the major sites. It is over 10,000 words longer than Professional No-Limit Hold 'em Volume 1 -- and that's after we cut 75,000 words of material that was not lasered in on how to beat online no-limit 6-max for a living.

Free is a pretty good price. I'd go for that offer, Bears. ;)

I am pretty sure I will preorder it. Even if it is geared towards NL $1/$2 6max there should be at least some small pieces of info in it that makes it worth investing 4 big blinds for me.
I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass! And I'm all out of bubblegum...

You could do those 75,000 words as a separate book, give it a catchy title like Online Poker Made Simple - Make Millions, and get it published as a Kindle book. I have heard that the title is what makes a Kindle book.

I am confused because I see where Miller says the book may never be a traditional publication, but Flynn says it will be eventually.

It needs to be a physical book. That cover is just too damned pretty for it not to be.

What Is An E-Book?

An e-book is a book that is distributed in an electronic format such as a PDF file or a series of webpages.

Why An E-Book?

E-books are the hottest thing going today in poker training. They offer several advantages over traditional books:

* Instant Updating. Poker changes fast, and traditional books can become obsolete quickly. An e-book can be easily updated when necessary to stay cutting-edge.
* Instant Access. No waiting days for Amazon to ship your order. You start learning from an e-book immediately.
* Easy To Navigate. Trying to find the topic you want in a traditional book can waste a lot of time. It takes just seconds to run a search over an entire e-book.
* Direct From The Experts. Traditional publishing filters a book through a series of editors and publishers who don’t necessarily understand poker very well. What you are reading may not be at all what the authors intended! An e-book comes direct from the authors, so you know everything is just as it should be.
* And More. E-books are taking over the poker publishing industry. Don’t get left behind!

What Topics Does Small Stakes No-Limit Hold’em Cover?

The bulk of the book focuses on beating $1-$2 6-max online games. It’s a thorough, example-driven discussion of winning in this semi-tough game. If you don’t play this particular game, you may be puzzled why we focus on it. Here’s our answer from the book:

This first part is focused on a quite specific topic: how to beat an online $1-$2 6-max no-limit game. Why did we choose to focus on this game? Indeed, why did we choose to focus so narrowly on any one game? And if you intend to play a game other than online $1-$2 6-max, how relevant will this book be to you?

Here are the short answers to these questions. This game provides an ideal platform to teach the most critical no-limit concepts. If you can learn to beat an online $1-$2 6-max no-limit game, then you can handily beat 99 percent of all no-limit games in the world. So this book is highly relevant to the vast majority of no-limit players, whether you play live games or online, shorthanded games, full-ring, or even heads-up. Learn these ideas, apply them to your game, and you will destroy the competition.

We then elaborate for another page or two. But the basic idea is that we’re teaching concepts that work in a wide range of no-limit games. We picked this particular game for our examples because we see it roughly as the toughest of the “small stakes” games. Most of your opponents will not be giving their money away, but you also (by and large) won’t have to engage in high-level metagame thinking against super-tough players. If you play in an easier small stakes game than the one we chose (including live full-ring games), then this book will more than prepare you to get the money.

The book also has a section with advanced topics and another section aimed at more beginning-level no-limit players.
