Recommend a book for a smaller stakes type player

Postby Hotpizza » Apr 25 2010

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a book for a player such as myself. I play lower level NL mainly .25/.50 and looking to work my way up.

I would like to be recommended a newer type book rather than say Super Systems or a Dan Harrington type book.

Thanks in advance.

Is there any reason WHY you would not like to try Harrington on Cash 1? It is, in my opinion, a book that contains large amount of decent information.

Ed Miller's general intro to Holdem - NL, Limit and Tourney is supposed to be good but I have not read it yet.

Lancey Howard: I recollect a young man putting the same question to Eddie the Dude. "Son," Eddie told him, "all you paid was the looking price. Lessons are extra."

Thanks simmo, appreciate the reply. As for Harrington, I want to read something that most people haven't read. Nothing more to it.

Fair enough but, to be honest, the more I read and reread both HoC and 2, the more I think that most people who have got it or even 'read' it don't 'get' it.

If you are playing in many aggresive 6max games, then his advice is prob on the tight side (I hate 6max) yet every time I make some sort of leap of understanding of a poker concept, quite often there it is in HoC.

A good example of this is comparing much of Bobby Hoff's advice in the Deuces Cracked podcast and he was also on a 2+2 one. In fr cash games, Harrington'sadvice is pretty well up to scratch and it would be +ev to follow it. (I can't. YET)

Harrington on Cash actually has a section on how to adjust to low limit games both online and off line.

Another book to consider is Angel Largay's book. Very good against donks.

Harrington is coming out with some new online cash books. For his regular cash game books, it really doesn't matter if someone else has read them or not. The advice is so solid with respect to poker theory that no one can really gain an advantage over you (as opposed to say his tourney books, which have more of a recognizable and possibly exploitable "style"). Professional No Limit Vol 1 is a must read.
