My NL Books and how I see they help me.

Postby simmo5050 » May 08 2009

This post is my take on what I think is the main focus on the NL cash books that I like most and which have helped me most in different ways.

(The list starts with the 'Beginner's' books.)

* Mastering NL Holdem, Fox and Harker

This explains the basics and encourages a tight style. Lots of stuff that helps reading the board. The hands one of the authors played in an 8-hour live session are interesting (tight!)

* NL Holdem: Theory and Practice

This explains fully what to think about and how to 'do the math' although it may not be easy ti implement the theory straight away.

* Professional NL Holdem, Miller, Mehta and Flynn

I immediately found the SPR and REM to be extremely useful tools although I am now finding it far harder to implement this. Basically, the deeper the stacks, the harder TPTK is to play and the reason for this is explained clearly in:

* Harrington on Cash 1, Harrington

This is the best book I have read for detailing how good players think about thei r hands and for help with ideas such as 'what can I beat'. Extremely useful. I do NOT agree with those who criticise Book 1 for being fairly basic and / or mainly a list of the basic differences between ring games and tournaments; NL cash games with deep stacks are very very complicated but that is the most difficult thing to see.

Happy Reading
Slade: How the hell did you know I didn't have the king or the ace?
Lancey Howard: I recollect a young man putting the same question to Eddie the Dude. "Son," Eddie told him, "all you paid was the looking price. Lessons are extra."
