Guys, Gals?
<br />
<br />
I own about a 150 poker books (and hundreds on gambling) . Some of the first ones I bought were when I was a kid growing up and playing poker in pool halls in Mt. Clemems, Michigan. Even as a teenager, I knew that reading a poker book and playing the game went together like cook books and cooking. Ya need the correct recipes to succeed!
<br />
<br />
I think the first one I bought, around 1950?, was <span style="font-style: italic">Oswald Jacoby On Poker.</span> There was no mention of a game called Hold'em or Hold Me Darlin' in it.
<br />
<br />
I collect poker quotes. (I have thousands)
<br />
<br />
A few quotes from it:
<br />
<br />
"...a player who attempts to fool his opponents by means of gestures, actions, etc,, is much easier to play against than one who makes all his bets in the same manner."
<br />
<br />
"He is continually studying the other players to see, first, if they have any telltale habits, second, if there are any situations in which they act automatically."
<br />
<br />
"...when another player makes a special effort to look confident he has nothing, while when he tries to look nervous, he is loaded."
<br />
<br />
"When I am losing in a poker game I say to myself, 'I can get even when, if and as my luck turns. If it doesn't turn today it will tomorrow. Meanwhile I am not going to force matters with bad hands."
<br />
<br />
Not much has changed, has it.
