Been To Mecca

Postby Doc T River » Apr 26 2011

I have been to Mecca and I am not even a Muslim.

What I mean is that I did make it to Gambler's Bookstore while I was out in Vegas and for a poker book lover, that is Mecca.

I must say that it was not what I expected in terms of the exterior or interior look. The exterior was so nondescript that the cabbie actually passed it by a few feet and had to back up. The interior was somewhat old, but the place is clean and by not paying for a fancy interior or exterior, they can concentrate on the items they sell.

I did not end up buying a poker strategy book but went with a tournament DVD along with a few items that I don't remember what they were right now.

The clerk, Felipe, was a great kid. He seemed very knowledgeable and made recommendations based on what we were looking at and what we told him about ourselves. He did not try to sell us something simply because it was the flavor of the week.

I can't guarantee that they will get all my poker strategy purchases, but they will get a share. All thanks to the customer care they exhibited.

If you go to Vegas and you are looking for a way to improve your game, you HAVE to go to Gambler's Bookstore. If they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you.

I was there earlier this year and noticed that they moved to a new location and new ownership - just realized that Howard sold and is now owned by Avery Cardoza. I was actually helped by him as well but didn't know until after he left.

Still a great store and loved going through the books there as I am a book lover myself.

I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted because the fiancee was with me, but next time she is giving me the present of not coming so I can stay as long as I want. Its a free present, but its the thought that counts.

Wonder if they have Harry Potter new book sleepover type of things.

They had a table set up in the hallway at the WSOP. Brilliant marketing, I'd say.
