Playing Multi tables should my BR be more then 250 BB?

Postby badboywes » Oct 29 2007

Been playing SH LH this past week at the Micro levels and was curious if my BR should be larger for Multi tableing? I am currently playing 4 tables and am looking to start playing 8. Hope this all makes since if not just ask me what the hell im talking about? lol

Multitabling decreases your earn rate, which leads to increased variance, so to be on the safe side you need a higher bankroll than when single tabling. But as long as you are a) willing to step down if things go really bad or b) able to refill your bankroll should you bust, playing on a roll of 250BB is ok.

You will have 100 BB swings if you are playing 8 tables of SH limit far more regularily that you would like.

If you can reload its not that big of a deal, but playing that many tables has huge variance.

Also 250 BB is very light for SH in the first place... I used a 300 BB minimum but was never too comfortable with less than 500 BB (that was ideal for me). It is pretty easy to drop 50 BB in a session and I;ve had a few 100 BB dips as well.

But as the others say... it depends on how vital your BR is to you. I've busted mine several times, but i can reload if I need to.

Borer and Mak also state that the 300BB rule isn't valid for 6max but advocate a 500BB BR. I had downswings of 200BB before in 6max and when multi tabling you definitely have to expect those, maybe even worse ones depending on your edge

I also remember reading in the Borer/Mak book that you can roughly expect your variance to increase by the square root of the number of table you play. So with 4 tables, you have twice as much variance. With 9 tables, you have 3 times as much variance, etc.

I also suggest having a higher BR than 250 for SH. 500 multitabling should be enough if you are willing to drop down. I've been dealing with playing with a short bankroll at NL50 and kept having to drop down just because I didn't feel comfortable. Now that I have a large enough bankroll, I'm able to play my best and after 18k hands am still a winning player. You can never have to much and if you start feeling uncomfortable, drop down and build it back up a little more before you move back up.

Since this OP I have changed my game of choice a few times and watched my BR grow and then I blew the money else where lol. I am now in the process od rebuilding and playing strictly SNG's. I just moved up to the $10 turbos on Cake and if I drop to $420 BR wise i'll drop back down.
