Razz - trying to learn but confusedOk here goes....
I think I get most of the concepts of the game except I'm trying to make sense of pairs used for best hands. So Hero has (A2)4567(2) vs Villian who has (78)9TJQ(K) Who wins and why? Any insight would be much appreciated
It's best five card hand so pair is irrelevant in this case.
Having three pairs is bad news! For the ultimate in razz misery, seek out the WSOP Razz final table with Howard Lederer, Dutch Boyd and TJ Cloutier. TV gold!
Thanks for the answer....
Ok here's another one Hero (AA)2234(5) vs villian (78)9TJQ(K) In this case based on your answer the wheel should win again, right? Just trying to make sure I get it.
Right, the player with (AA)2234(5) has a wheel and beats the other player's J-low. But suppose: Player 1: (AA)243K(2) Player 2: (QJ)T987(6) Do you see why player 2 wins here? The road to poker enlightenment is paved with every conceivable FPS move.
I'll take a shot. I think its because player 2 has a T -low while player 1 ultimately has a K- low
Now as philux alluded to before having 3 pairs is bad simply because no matter what I end up having to showdown my lowest pair (I think) Ex:(AA)2234(4) So in this case my best hand is 22 A34 I think this is correct but having confirmation would be much appreciated.
Sounds like you've almost got it now. Drawing the 4 to a A234 would count as a bad beat. I believe that your hand is AA234 in your final example because Aces are low in Razz, but it wouldn't probably matter.
Thanks a bunch to all who helped with the discussion I think I finally understand hand ranking in razz.
