Can I even slow down?

Postby Piscivorous » Sep 16 2010

Situation: MiniFTOPS Event #25 - 7 Stud High Fixed Limit

Heads-up in a hand with a good Stud player who has about 1K more chips than me.

JAJ. I raise the bring-in and get re-raised by an A. I call.

I get J on 4th street. I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he calls. He catches an A on 5th street. I bet out he raises.

What's my play considering I have one of the aces and redraws to a fullhouse or better?

I'm not a big stud player, but I am a tournament player. I would push this edge for all I could get out of it. I think you're likely to be against aces up, since you've got one of the aces. The case ace being in his hand is super unlikely.

In a cash situation, you could slow down, but I don't think you can here. You need to get all the chips to win. This looks like an excellent opportunity that 8 times out of 10 is going to get you a huge amount of chips. Your hand is disguised enough that you could probably just keep raising until your opponent decides they have to slow down. Maybe just calling 6th street after his raise and your reraise, and hopefully a reraise back. Then get all you can on 7th street. Hopefully you boat up there and your opponent doesn't get better than aces up.
