do you bet the turn here?

Postby aural » Sep 18 2011

hi there

my question concerning this hand is:
did i make a mistake betting the turn? having the blockers and a gutshot myself it seemed pretty ok to lead out on the turn again although a bunch of straights hit.

thanks for any thoughts
cheers
s.

If you were normally deep here, I'd be more inclined to check. Given that you only had $2.45 behind I think the shove is fine.

I agree but only in a vacuum on 4th street. If we go back and plan the entire hand, I think this isn't a winning way to play it. You have a good starting hand but you left yourself a very awkward SPR by 3-betting. 3-betting is OK but you whiffed the flop, yet you're committing, almost no matter what comes. You could have just called preflop, in which case you can bet pot on the flop and then gotten away from the hand, or check the flop because you whiffed, but you wouldn't have been committed.

Having half your stack in in this situation is just a bad spot, IMO.
