In Omaha poker you get 4 holecards, and you must use exactly 2 from your hand and 3 from the board. Not less, not more. Every other aspects are the same: preflop, flop, turn, river, showdown. Pot limit betting usually.

By having to use 2 holecards no 1 card straights, no 1 card flushes and no 1 card full houses are to be feared from. But if there is 89T on the board, and there is action then your T-set is very likely a drawing hand.

Because of the four cards instead of two, the possibilities are exponential. At NLHE, after awhile, what you see becomes second nature. You can quickly look at a board and just know the possible hands by ranking. Being able to do the same with PLO it doesn't come so quickly (although it does come). Also, this creates more chance for errors. Your opponents aren't a sharp as in holdem because of the increased degree of difficulty. There is also the consideration that hand rankings are not the same. In holdem, top pair may be good, but, in PLO it often isn't. Even two pair doesn't give you much confidence in your hand like it might in holdem. I also feel it is more difficult to read your opponenets tendencies. For example, a loose player preflop in holdem may play the same number of hands preflop in PLO but not be considered loose becaus eof the relative closeness of starting hands. A new player can easily think the opponent is loose when in fact he is not at all in PLO so you are making your decisions from a mindset of holdem instead of PLO.
Hope this helps,
Jim
