"It's not about the hand you put your opponent on, it's about how you think he will play that hand."
Same....and many thanks also. 1 q though....What happened to the "autographed" part that was mentioned in APLO Vol I? Psyched to have book, but dissapointed it wasn't autographed as advertised.
I like how theory is at the beginning, and the hands are devided into basic examples (2/4) and then more examples on different stakes. It makes it easy to access and fast to read the first time, so you can then concentrate on what gives you the most trouble.
One thing I don't like is Jeff sometimes gives imo too little info on his decisions. 3betting vs flatting IP is something I'm working on right now. Now, I think he doesn't use a HUD, but I still wish he'd provide some info about opponent's tendencies and range and postflop play when 3betting his UTG raise. As it is now it's all based on his own cards, position, action and stacks.
Yeah. I don't talk much about hand ranges because for the most part -- unless stacks are extremely shallow or your opponent is only opening 2% (A-A-x-x) -- your opponent's range is almost irrelevant when 3-betting in position. This is a function of the fact that no matter what he holds, he cannot be a big favorite over you. And so essentially, your cards (what you are comfortable jacking the pot with) and stack sizes (i.e. what the SPR will be) are by far the two most important variables. That said, you'll notice that there will be blocks of hands where I'll mix up my play against the same opponent, or where I'll adjust my play based on previous action from that particular opponent. But I suppose that for the most part I assume that the opponent is fairly typical for the stakes. Jeff
Thanks, that makes sense.
I've finished vol.2 without the additional examples and started doing the test i vol.3
To put it short, I like how to the point the book is and how it hits home. Just reading it makes me want to play. The variable ratio reinforcement is a great metaphore and a great underlying concept how to crush out opponents. I also found myself going back to vol1 a lot. The test format of vol3 to find leaks and point you in the right direction is a good idea too. It seems like the 3 APLO volumes are like a PLO bible that you go back a lot to. Thanks Jeff and Dimat!
