The official 2011/12 football and heckling thread

Postby Pentahouve » Jun 17 2011

I'd like to start this thread off with my yearly bitch about how bloody early the fixture list comes out. Can we not have at least one month with no football?

June 16th/17th does seem to be the traditional start date for this thread.

Let battle commence.

It may be the worst signing ever made.

OK .. so just to clarify in case im missing something ..

If you work for FIFA ... you can be as corrupt as you like and take as much bungs as you can handle ... as long as nobody says anything ?

If someone does say something ... all you have to do is resign and no further action will be taken and you are confirmed innocent.

What a cracking job that is !! ... no wonder FIFA is a closed shop .. there would be a que a mile wide for every job vacancy .

I reckon Chelsea supporters should be really happy with the appointment of Villa-Boas, seems like he has everything needed to be a top manager plus the Bridge now get's to see sexy football.

Yep I think so, you have to be a particularly special individual to get one of the biggest jobs in football at 33. Falcao and Hulk at the Bridge this season?

Falcao maybe but signing Hulk just encourages commentators to say "just don't get him angry!" ](*,)

I've just noticed it's almost exactly one year since I stopped watching football.

I remember I was watching some World Cup game. I can't remember who it was, but I think it was Switzerland vs Chile and it was really shit. And I suddenly had a moment of introspection and realised that I didn't actually like football any more. I still kind of liked the game, but I just hated everything that went with it. Not so much the usual things that annoy people like diving, FIFA, money dominating, corruption etc as annoying as some of these things are. What really made me hate football was other football fans. The way they put such importance on what team you support (as if it actually matters one bit). The way you can't have a sensible discussion about football without 'home team bias' dominating the discussion. I really really hate football fans.

I have about 10 american football jerseys and when I wear them out and about I sometimes get other fans of the game (British and American) stop me to talk about the game, either in general or about the team whose jersey I am wearing assuming I am a fan. It's always a pleasant experience, even if we support different teams, it seems fans of American Football in this country just love meeting other fans and chatting about the game. On the other hand, I haven't worn my football shirts in ages (I have Liverpool and England ones). I hate it when retarded football fans come up to me with their bullshit opinion on football or to state something obvious like "ha ha Liverpool are shit" like somehow I care. I'm almost tempted to buy an Arsenal shirt or something just so I can wear it and kill conversations stone dead by saying I am not an Arsenal fan and watch them walk away in bemusement.

I went almost cold-turkey on football from that point. I got dragged along to the England vs Slovenia game but didn't enjoy it. I spent most of the England vs Germany game doing a BBQ while my friends watched the game inside. Once the season started I barely watched any at all. Actually that's not quite true. I have been winning a lot of money betting on football and have watched the games I have been betting on, solely to cheer on the team I have a financial interest in. Last season I, amongst other things, cheered on Man United to beat Liverpool, cheered on England to lose World Cup qualifiers (or be losing at half time anyway), cheered on one team in the first half and then the other team in the second half, cheered on both teams to defend well and not concede and all kinds of weird stuff like that. It's a strange way to watch football, but strangely liberating. It doesn't even feel like you're watching football at all. I remember watching a Blue Square Premier League game (or something like that anyway) while the Champions League QF was on the other channel and never felt remotely interested in switching over to check the score.

Not only was last season thoroughly enjoyable, but best of all it meant I could take several thousand pounds from those idiot football fans who annnoyed me so much in the first place. I look forward to another season of the same.
