I love the Sweet Science.

I am watching ESPN Fight Night and it got me wondering....

When was the last BIGTIME FIGHT?

The one that you paid PPV for and had a party around it?

And just who is the Heavyweight Champ as of this post? I am ASHAMED to say I have no idea.

Boo me. :(

The last time I had a load of people round and paid for a PPV fight was Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton. I would have done the same for his fight against Pauli Malignaggi last November but I made the pilgrimage to Vegas to watch it live. The fight wasn't the greatest of all time, but it was a truly fantastic night.

I also tend to pay for all of the major fights involving British boxers, although mainly Hatton and Calzaghe (pre retirement). Come to think of it, I paid for PPV for Calzaghe's fights against Hopkins and Jones.

I'm also a little embarrassed to confess to getting the PPV Amir Khan fight vs Berrera.

What I don't get about British TV is that, as of now (and unless something has changed recently that I'm unaware of) none of the usual suspects are going to show the Carl Froch vs Jermaine Taylor super middleweight title fight later this month. After seeing Froch win the title in one of the best tear ups I've seen in years I am not at all happy about this!!!

What the heck .. a boxing thread that i did not start !!

As for recent fights ... Scully basically named all the big fights which involved british fighters ...although i only purchased the Hatton v Pretty Boy fight ..

The rest ive watched live on the computer.

As for the current heavy weight champions they are mainly the Klitschko brothers and some huge lump called Nikolay Valuev ..

THe heavyweight division is dire at the moment ... basically full of robotic soviet Ivan Drago clones ...

But thats all about to change ...because a certain Haymaker has joined the scene and is fighting one of the Klitschko brothers in June ...

There is no doubt whatsoever ... i will be purchasing this fight ...and im pretty sure i will be doing the same with Hatton v Pacman ...

As for Froch ... i have no idea why nobody is taking the tv rights for this ... he is fighting a big name in his first defence in the guys back yard ....

Maybe Sky etc just think we want cherry picked opponents for average Frank Warren fighters instead of something a little more competitive ....

I like Froch ... in fact i like all fighters who just basically say ... lets get it on ...i will fight whoever ..

Lets be honest here ... Taylor has no real chance against Froch ..

OK .. hes a name in the US and beat Hopkins twice ..but could not take Kelly Pavlik's power ..

There is a chance he could outbox Froch and take the decision .. but i feel Froch will land enough shots to stop Taylor middway through the fight ..

Froch can be heavy handed .. and Taylor is moving upto super middleweight and is basically not going to be able to take Froch's best shots ..

Froch will wear him down and do a number on him IMO ..

MMA is really hurting boxing in the states. I hardly hear anything about boxing except on the eve of a big match.

what would the consensus be on the best website for following boxing? Stats, schedules, profiles...etc?

Im not sure ... i used to buy the ring magazine all the time when i was much younger ..

Gone are the days when i could reel off every champion / champions of each weight .. and throw in their career record to boot ..

As for websites ... there are so many ...i did a quick search and this looked ok ... although im sure there are better ones out there ..

Ive had some serious debates about this guy ...

IMO .. he could have been the best fighter ever ..

When boxing fans rate Holyfield as a better fighter than Tyson ... well it gets right up my goat ..

On his day ... Tyson would have ripped Holyfield's head off within 6 minutes ..

I still say .. the Tyson that stepped into the ring back in 1988 against Spinks would have knocked out any fighter that night .... you can include Ali, Frazier, Foreman .. etc etc .

That was the first time some people actually thought he might struggle and he was zoned that night ...

Sadly after that .. he went into decline ... You can put it down to Cus D'Amato dieing and him losing the plot ..

He was with that witch called Robin Givens ... ( man i hated that women ) ... he also ditched his longtime trainer Kevin Rooney and you basically had Don King fighting over him ..

He struggled against a lame Bruno and although he blitzed Williams he then lost to Douglas ..

After that the myth and aura about Tyson as gone and he was never the same again ..
