misplayed set?

Postby simmo5050 » Jan 28 2010

i got Holdem Manager yesterday and since having a look at my basic stats (for a very small sample at the mo) I've been trying to be a bit more agressive with big hands. Was I overly so here?

Not one bit, IMO. You are behind to very few hands and this board is very drawy. I'm afraid you lost this hand to :ah :qh or something of that nature but you played this fine. If he happened to wake up with 55, well...set/set just sucks and you can't worry about those.

On HEM, the EV $ Diff column = $35.66 and somewhere else it says my equity was 68%, I think. Regarding this second figure, doesn;t it mean I had 68% of the pot on average at showdown? I have no idea exactly what the ev $ diff is depsite trying to follow some threads about it.

This hand is 100% standard. You could also donk bet the flop to avoid giving a free card if you fear that the flop gets checked around often, but I think at these limits you will always find someone who is trying to steal the pot when it gets checked to them.

The $35.66 is probably the amount of money you should win on average with this hand vs opps hand. Since you (probably) won $0, the EV difference is $35.66, meaning you ran $35.66 below EV. The 68% is your equity on the flop, meaning you should win the hand 68% of the time on average.

Ta. 68% of a $52 pot is about $35 so, in the long term, my ev for this situation is $35. From this, is it right that on Holdem Manager ev $ diff positive figures are 'bad' in that you have been 'unlucky' and ev $ diff minus figures mean you have done better than you should have.

I am very very pleased with HE Manager. Dunno why I didn't get it years ago. Doh.

The answer to the question "misplayed set?" should (very nearly almost) always be: "did you go broke?"

Indeed.

Note to self: perform gibberish check before hitting "submit". Then again, it's never bothered me before. :D
