Hello, my name is Ben.

Postby Cyclist » Sep 05 2010

Hi, I'm Ben and I live in Birmingham (UK).

I'm 19, I work as a cycle courier and I am pretty new to poker. I started playing micro limit games on and off about a year ago but I recently decided that I would like to go travelling before my 20th birthday, currently 186 days away. I'm planning to travel for a while so I'd like to be able to fund it by playing online poker.

I am currently re-reading "Winning Low Limit Hold'em" by Lee Jones. This week I played for seven hours and lost $35 in total, playing .50/1 limit hold'em, which seems pretty bad. However, I have nothing at all planned between now and when I want to travel apart from work and playing bike polo, so I can put a lot of time into it. I reckon that if I can be earning $4/hr by the time I leave, I'll be sweet.

Am I reading the right stuff? Am I playing the right limits/game? Any opinions, I'd love your advice.

Given the nature of our community, you will find most of us swear by Matthew's book for folks learning to play limit poker. That would be "Internet Texas Hold-em" by Matthew Hilger.

There are other good books on limit poker out there, but in my opinion Matthew's is the best.

Ok cool, I'll give that book a look. I've been thinking that I could do with a book that's internet-specific

Many thanks for reccomending this book. I've just finished it and I'm gonna read it through a few more time, it's excellent. Now I just need to start applying the lessons learned.
