If people really want to use collusion all they need to do is be on the phone with each other while they're playing; no sniffer will catch that. Gotta believe people really intent on cheating/double playing would find talking to each other directly to be much more useful.

stripes wrote:For your information, IRC traffic is entirely unencrypted. Running an IRC program on your machine is likely to be noticed and easily sniffed. Your only connection-- usually-- is to the IRC server in question, although direct peer-to-peer connections are possible if you use /dmsg or other DCC functions. A program is unlikely to tell anything else beyond where you're connected to without querying the IRC server itself, which it should not be able to do undetected-- but the /who #poker list will typically have each user's hostname listed.

Be forewarned.

This seems like a good time for me to restate a few things about the IRC channel that some of us use.

1. The channel is run by some ITHers. It is not, however, an ITH channel, in that it is not endorsed by ITH, or an official ITH *thing*. Whatever. You're welcome to join those in the channel, but please respect the wishes of the owners. If they kick you off because, for instance you are abusive, or for whatever reason, they can, and will. If they do, don't come here and complain about it, or flame anyone.

2. You run IRC entirely at your own risk. I don't know anything about IRC or how it works, I just know how to connect to a server and join a channel, and talk to some people. If wicked things happen to you because you installed Trillian and ran IRC, that's NMP I'm afraid.

Cajun, just follow Cyb's simple instructions on page 1 of this post.

Cyb, I d/l'd mIRC tonight and typed exactly what Matt said to type in his instructions (now in the FAQ list), and although I got into the room, there were 6 or 7 names there, none of which I ever heard of, and no one said a thing in over an hour. Was I in the right place? I just typed join /#poker, after getting on the server number, 206.8.83.252. Note, it didn't have the 6667 at the end like you posted for Trillion? above. Would that make a difference?

Another victim of FPS, Fancy Play Syndrome-- need the correct opp to make moves/try to outplay them-- especially at lower levels where they almost all play at the zeroth or 1st level of thinking you usually do end up spewing chips-- even against the correct opp you have to pick your spots--not try to do it too often. -- Bugsbunny

Never managed to get mIRC up properly either RC, but Trillian worked like a breeze first try. Highly recomended.

Okay, I got/found it. Yay! Think I was connected to a wrong server last night. Really looking forward to this. I used to do mirc all the time. Had a lot of fun with it. Then poker took over in my life.

Somedays it's quieter than others in there, and I guess people will be sometimes using names other than their ITH name so you might not recognise everyone. I myself have a habit of logging on, saying nothing, then leaving...

So, I was trying off and on to get this to work with Trillian and kept failing. Today (thanks to the new web interface), I got it to work. Figured that I would post so that others who were having trouble could try...

The IP address provided in these instructions (206.8.83.252) doesn't work for me. Not sure if it is old and incorrect, just down or what. Reverse DNS shows that as irc.denox.cx but I get no repsonse on port 6667.

I noticed today that the web interface uses "irc.gentoo.se" as the server. I tried this instead and it works fine for me. That maps to 62.181.123.103 according to my nameserver (you are, of course, better off using the name in case it changes).
