What is going on here?

Postby chrisjp » Apr 05 2011

This is a $12 Rush and there are 12 players remaining. I am short and sitting 11th. 27 paid so we are well into the money, but the big money is still a ways off. No read on villain. What in the world is he doing?

Full Tilt Poker $11 + $1 Rush On Demand No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t500/t1000 Blinds + t125 - 5 players - View hand 1264147

BTN: t51261 M = 24.12
SB: t75838 M = 35.69
Hero (BB): t7062 M = 3.32
UTG: t20135 M = 9.48
CO: t16385 M = 7.71

Pre Flop: (t2125) Hero is BB with 8 :diamond: J :club:
3 folds, SB calls t500, Hero checks

Flop: (t2625) 6 :diamond: K :spade: 9 :spade: (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks

Turn: (t2625) J :diamond: (2 players)
SB bets t1000,

?????

I could have pushed preflop, but his limp seemed either very dumb or very strong. Then he checked the flop. So I still checked. Now the turn and I finally paired up. He makes a weak lead. Your move....

I might push pre-flop in this situation. But not when the SB has 75k in chips. If villian had imped with let's say 7-10k then i'm pushing all day long. Personally i'm not going anywhere. I think it's very unlikely that villian has a king. His pre-flop limp makes no sense with a hand holding a king. He's surely going to raise pre isn't he? I think i might call. And get it allin on the turn. It may seem spewy. But i'm pretty confident a jack is good here.

I'm with Rad.

I've seen big stacks complete with AA or so other very strong hands. So I wasn't going to push preflop. Then he checks the flop. OK, who knows. Then he bets small on the turn. He's not betting enough to get me in. This looks very suspicious. I'll play him for a random straightforward meatball.

i really do hate the limp by the SB pre too. I think he should be just shoving here. He's got a ton of chips. He needs to be using them chips to bully players and give them difficult decisions to make. Limping is not putting the pressure on his opponents.

As Chris and I have discussed in IRC before, random dweebs in the Rushaments just love to complete BvB with Ax, for some reason.

I would always have Ax as a big big part of their range here. As such, I love the way Chris played this hand in all respects.

Pretty much. Sheet's tables show that with an effective M<4 he should be pushing over 80% of his hands unexploitable. Given how most BB's play I wouldn't be surprised if 100% of SB's hands is the correct tournament strategy in this situation.
