Steal vs. limps

Postby Piscivorous » Oct 30 2011

In the BB with 97o. 6 limps in front including the SB. Blinds at 100/200 and I'm on a 10K stack. I raise to 1K in the hopes of a steal here as the players are showing a lack of spine in situations like this. However, button on a 4200 stack pushes. My move?

6 limps so including the BB there is 1400 in the pot - you raise to 1k making it 2200 and 800 to call............ dare I suggest its not enough?

Once he shoves its 6400 with 3200 to call - its not great, chip protection says fold but are you often more than a 2/1 dog here? Personally I have no idea what range would call to see a multiway pot then shove - maybe some small to medium PP?

I'd probably fold since I'm cautious at this blind level but if you raised here then calling isnt terrible. You still have around 30BB if you lose so maybe the gambler in you should take over.

Raising with 97o in this spot without knowing any of your opponents limp/fold % seems too wide to me...?

As played I think you have to call now. It seems not so probable that someone limps behind three limpers with a big pair. In fact I'd say our opponent who backraised is most likely holding a small pair and you are getting a good price. But I mean who knows.

However the raise is quite horrible. First your hand isn't good enough and secondly the raise is not enough. Lets say you were on the button with this hand and three limpers, then yeah I think popping it up to 1k is alright but I'd still prefer something suited, connected or bigger cards, but I'm not really into it from the bb with 5 opponents.

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually not BB here. I'm the guy pushing after the BB attempted steal from the button with AA. Not a move I normally make with AA, but both blinds have shown a slight tendency to make raises in this position and have grabbed all of the limps, blinds and antes without a showdown. I told myself I'd do exactly what I did if the situation occurred on this table and I had a good holding. I just thought BB's call was rather poor and am unsure if he was really paying attention despite being a decent player, as I was being pretty nitty up to this point.

Thanks again,

-Pi
