Satellite situation

Postby jfletcher » Jun 18 2010

Little $2.20 sat to the 1/4 Mil at Stars. There are 17 seats awarded. 23 players left. I'm in about 16th or so.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 2.2 Tournament, 150/300 Blinds 25 Ante (8 handed) -

UTG+1 (t1572)
MP1 (t8012)
MP2 (t6158 )
Hero (CO) (t4565)
Button (t4478 )
SB (t5720)
BB (t20270)
UTG (t8492)

Hero's M: 7.02

Preflop: Hero is CO with :as, :kc
UTG bets t900, 3 folds, Hero ?????

I know in a normal tourney, this would be a standard push with AK, but since this is a sat and I'm approaching the bubble, should I just ditch it and try to a) fold my way in or b) pick up chips only when I can be first to act?

In a previous sat I actually folded a hand as good as 99 against an EP raiser because, even though I was ahead of his range, he had a big stack and would probably have called me with anything, and I was just taking an uncessary risk.

I understand the dilemma but I would still push it. i don't think that you're at the point where you could actually sit out and come back an hour later to find that you had won your seat. So you really can't "fold into a seat" with your stack (correct me if I'm wrong). I'd abuse this bubble like any other tournament. You should have some decent fold equity and on the other hand still be in pretty good shape if you get called.

Agree. If you were in the top 1/3 or so in chips (guessing here) you might be able to fold in/not get involved without first-in vig. But I think this is a push until you are very very close to the bubble.

I pushed. He had JJ. I lost.

Guess it was right, but I haven't played as many sats, so wanted to check.

With the stack sizes it's a pretty easy push.

You still need a double if you have any chance of getting the seat. So i think i just shove it in and hope for the best.
