Pocket nines dilemma - FT $200 turbo

Postby philhux » Jun 17 2010

Mid stages of a $200+16 turbo tournament

27 pay and I am currently 9/50.

As far as I can see, the only two viable options here are to open shove or to raise call - unless it goes something insane like I raise and then there are two all ins - then I can make a fold.

What do people think of the options here?

R/C

Slow play a little if flop is good. You have to chip up so take a little risk. That is my play.

I probably just raise my normal amount. 2.25xbb. And snap-call a shove.

Me too. If two left to act move in then I can fold. By min raising you can get someone with a low pair to shove, when they likely would and should fold it if you push.

I think I prefer a raise-call line as well. Some weaker hand might shove that wouldn't call a push. I don't thik your folding any better hands to a shove that a 2.5 raise wouldn't otherwise fold anways.

Also, i think if you just go ahead and push, your opponents have to think you have something a little decent. By just raising, you don't necessarily have to have anything.

If I was the button against the two shortish blinds I would just shove. With the current button in your way though, I don't think open-shipping 25BBs effective is a good idea.

Obviously, we would be raise-calling against the blinds, but what about if the button 3-bet shoves?

Cheers

I surmised that raise calling was correct for many of the reasons named above. As it was - button jammed on us with AJ, we called and lost the flip. I'm happy with my play.
