mid stage AK utg

Postby hockeyaces » Jun 19 2010

No info on Villian. Should I assume he has at least 99+,AK stacking off from utg+1 with a utg raiser. Muck or Hope Call?

Let it go

Postby Louswon » Jun 19 2010

I fold. You showed strength but with the all in after you, your hand is usually an also-ran.

Unless you have a loose read on the villain, you're beat and drawing thin.

give up the 1k and move on.
Keep your focus. Hold onto your mind.

I think this is a pretty standard call. You're mostly flipping and will occasionally have him dominated. If you had say, 50 blinds then you can reconsider....but you have ~22 blinds in an online tourney. If he has AA or KK oh well.....onto the next tourney.

what coolfish said. Gotta call. They like these overbets often with JJ-99. But doesn't matter. With <25BBs you can't fold here.

If he has AA or KK oh well.....onto the next tourney.

I agree call. A push by villain actual shows some weakness not real weak but a little. You are (flipping vs. a small pair like 87% of the time), (3% vs. another AK), (7% your vs. a weaker A) and vs. AA or KK maybe 3%. Something like that.

I'm folding.

You call he shows pocket 7s.
You flip.
Tourny life on the line on a 48% chance of winning.
Ace or king doesn't hit.
You lose tourney.

How does our stack compare to an average stack?

I'm assuming if we are going to get much further we're not going to do it by stealing blinds and antes. Although its likely he does have something I'd rather gamble here than get blinded off.

You don't have a raise / fold stack at this point. When you are in the 20-25BB range you have to consider that when opening. Any pot you open should be one you are willing to play for all your chips. AK is definitely strong enough to go with here. You are flipping way more often than you are up against AA or KK and even against KK you have a 30% shot.

Low Utility

Postby timchuk » Jun 24 2010

You can't really make any plays with your stack size. You gotta gamble to win a tournament anyways so why not flip with the 4th best starting hand. Like you say 77 might knock you out. 22 could knock you out all the same. Don't play on scared chips or you might blind out.

Folding here is bad...what exactly are you waiting for if you let this hand go with your M 8? KK or better?
I'm better, dude.
