Limping/raising behind limpersI'd like to know what everyone's ranges are for limping and raising when there have been 1 or 2 limpers in front of you. Lets say we are in the CO with KQo and UTG+1 and MP+1 limp, What's your play. Do you raise? Or do you limp? i actually prefer a raise. But i'd like to know what everyone else would do.

Re: Limping/raising behind limpersIts funny, in a cash game I'm happy to limp along with a wide variety of holdings. In MTT settings, I'm far more likely to raise. I think it is an issue of stack size relative to the blinds.
Re: Limping/raising behind limpersStack sizes are important like nside says. Also the tendencies of the limpers. Most limpers will just toss their hands away if you raise. But not all of course. A lot of players will limp in with low pairs and then if you raise try to hit a set. If they had raised and you 3bet they frequently would not have implied odds to call. Some of the time the first limper has a monster, but they usually reraise preflop and let the cat out of the bag.
When a player limps first in from middle or late position it's almost always weak. Some of these limpers limp frequently, but they are stubborn and won't fold to a preflop raise. That doesn't mean you shouldn't raise in position--they will be behind your range if you have something fairly decent. If not and they play fit or fold all the better...you can raise with even more holdings. Pretty easy to read these types if you are playing live...online not quite as predictable. Chris Poker taught me how to be self critical and how to use to that to improve...also taught me how to dust myself off and go again. The past is the past. Learn your lessons and move right on. --Paulif
Re: Limping/raising behind limpers
Plenty of times I can find a fold here!! Generally calling limps like this I'd like some small-middling PP or suited connectors. Even then it obviously depends on players left to act who might look to squeeze. As for raising (depending on stack sizes) I normally prefer to have something solid. I dont like raising here with hands I would have to fold if reraised. Interestingly a lot of the MTTs I have played at Party often have tables where limping early on is the norm. Raising with KQ here would make even less sense though since all that normally happens is they stubbornly call leaving you multiway with a hand that still needs to hit to be worth anything. To infirmity and beyond
Re: Limping/raising behind limpersEarly on in a tournament I'll overlimp with low pairs and suited connectors. Keep the pot small unless I hit something.
With a high card hand like KQ or AJ I'd much rather raise if I'm in position. In the blinds I'd just look to see a flop and play a small pot.
