IMO a very interesting hand from a £1k sattelite

Postby Suited_Jock » Dec 01 2005

Live MTT £50 + 5 rebuys but is playing like a freezeout its squeaking its so tight.

Anyway its after the rebuy period 2hrs in and im proudly sitting at 8500 chips with blinds of 100/200.

We started with 46 players and about 30 still remain. 5 seats to the £1,000 event.

My table image is solid... Ive won every pot at showdown and have had 2 hands where 2 ppl have pushed into me holding the flopped nuts. doh :D

2 players just got busted from our table we were 6 handed so the table gets shuffled about so we're back to 10.

Villain is new to the table No reads on him tonight but in previous tournaments have seen him make some donkish plays.

Villain is sitting at slightly over 6500 chips hes in no trouble at the moment.

Hero has the button....

2 folds and Villain makes it 500 from MP+1 Folded to me on the button. I find :ah :ac. I flat call (questionable) Everyone else gets out the way.

Pot (1300)

We see a flop of :2d :js :9d

Villain Checks

Hero bets 1000
Villain calls

(pot 3300)

Turn :kd (what a bitch of a card !!!)

Villain checks
Hero Bets 2500

Villain Insta Pushes

Hero???

After a few replies Ill post what I done and why.

Tough one, Matt.

If my maths is right, you have to call another 2500 chips to win 8300. Getting over 3-1 on a call I don't think I can lay it down. Even if he has two pair like KJ or something you still have the odds to call. I don't see him having the flush, he'd bet a flush draw on the flop, I think. QT is the only other hand that beats you. It looks to me like he paired his K, AK possibly.

You mention having a solid table image, but then say this is a new guy at the table. Therefore your image surely isn't a factor.

I think I call.

How did you get on with this qualifier in the end? Hope you ended your recent bad run.

I played very decent poker.. Took a couple of bad beats AQ v 44 on a Q24 board  it got to like 1am and im shattered theres still 25 left and my M is still 10. I decided im gonna play aggressive and either go home to get sleep or bust out trying.

A10 lost to KK in the end. very happy with my play and someone recognized me from my name and commented on my great run in the blogger tournie i felt famous kinda ;)

I think your ahead here. The flop isnt likely to have hit either of you. The villian calls your flop bet realizing that with maybe two overs or 10 10. The villian realizes that he can take this pot away from if a diamond falls.

On the turn the villian can try to bluff the flush or he has a peice of something. I'd say AK with the ace of diamonds or 10 10 with the 10 of diamonds. He makes this bet hoping to force you out here but if you call he still has some outs on the river.

Thats my thinking anyways but I could be way off.

As I said in IRC, the way you played pre-flop; I like to check behind the turn and am prepared to call any bet on a non-diamond/ten river.

Just thought, anyone think he could be on a set of Jacks (even nines?) and slowplaying the flop? Even with that possibility, I still think it's a call.

Think it's the flat call preflop that got you into trouble here. If you reraised, a bet on the flop would probably have taken the pot (assuming he wasn't on a set).

FWIW I put him on KJ from his turn bet.. Went with my GUT. I felt he had something and he was trying to defend it on the turn. KJ is very succeptable to another paint card or diamond card on the river.

KJ would fit the pattern for the lack of reraise on the flop? I think.

Being both very deeply stacked M >20 and >30 neither of us really had to have a monster to be making the 2.5 bb raise or calling it.

Thus hands like KJ Q10 AdJx AdKx 78d etc etc cannot be discounted for either of us.

Keep the replies coming ill post the results.

its a bit late now, but i had him on AJo with the ace being a diamond, as i would of come over the top of you as he did knowing that if i didn't take the pot there and then and i was behind , then i had clean outs to the nut flush.
