Going to the next level

Postby mrmudgey » Jul 12 2010

I am what I consider to be a low-intermediate MTT player....understand odds, the effect of chip stacks, etc.....and I am looking for advice to further my game. My typical strategey is to play TAG early, and open up in the 10 to 20 BB range. I find that I get to the middle stages with an average to below average chip stack, and it is very rare that I have a big stack and I bust out right before the bubble.

My general question is, in your opinion, what is (are) the skill(s) that I can concentrate on to help to better my results and build a bigger stack so that I can last through those middle stages?

Just some general tips I've picked up on here......

1) Be sure you really are playing TAG - I remember a recent quote from Liv Boeree after she won a EPT event was that Annie Duke showed her what she was doing wasn't tight and it wasnt aggressive! If you read some of the posts by Chrisjp, Taardvark and Taz you'll see what I mean.

2) In the middle stages you need to identify some players you can pick on. Short stacks arent the ones you necessarily want to pick on because they can be desperate enough to call light, medium stacks are best since they are comfortable and dont want to risk losing that.

3) I cant recommend reading Winning Poker Tournaments one hand at a time vols 1 & 2 enough.
To infirmity and beyond
