Easy fold on turn?

Postby Newbatron » Jun 28 2010

Got a bit confused by the villains bet sizing so not sure what to do with this turn. Firstly, I would usually open here pre flop but during the ten hands iv been at this table I have opened twice in late/mid pos which I took down without showdown, so I opt to limp. The SB raises to 3x which is smallish considering there is a limper and he's OOP, I make the call with ~60bbs and position.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em Tournament, 25/50 Blinds (9 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

SB (t4015)
BB (t2315)
UTG (t2940)
UTG+1 (t3439)
MP1 (t4525)
MP2 (t2930)
Hero (MP3) (t2931)
CO (t2815)
Button (t3350)

Hero's M: 39.08

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Q :diamond:, 10 :diamond:
4 folds, Hero calls t50, 2 folds, SB bets t150, 1 fold, Hero calls t100

Flop: (t350) Q , 8 :spade:, 5 :spade: (2 players)
SB bets t325, Hero calls t325

I call as although I have no reads I expect him to cbet this board most of the time (im ahead of 77,99-JJ and all broadways without a Q) and re-evaluate the turn although he did bet the pot which is worrying.

Turn: (t1000) 9 :spade: (2 players)
SB bets t400, [[i]Hero ?[b]

Turn is interesting brings the spade flush and the OPSD (or gutshot with JT) gets there aswell and he bets 1/3 of the pot. Is this real strong like AQ or AA with the :as. Or a really weak bet at a scary turn to block me from taking him off his hand. Not sure whether I have the best hand or whether I can bluff him off a better hand. His bet sizing is strange, small preflop, big on the flop and then small on the turn. Your thoughts please

Limp- calling a raise pre is too weak. You should be either raising 3x or just folding. As played, i think i have to let it go on the turn.

I agree with Rad - would have been easier to play if you'd kept the upper hand by being the aggressor pre (or folding). QT is a trouble hand and I think its pretty marginal in this position... depending on my feel of the table I would either be open-raising or folding. I've been playing a little laggy lately, so I'd probably be raising (the fact that its sooted helps).

Yes I agree with both of you that limp calling is weak and I usually only do this when im mining. However because I had opened 2 or 3 times in the last orbit i didnt want to get 3 bet of this pretty hand so I thought id mix it up and limp, shudda just mixed it up and folded. I hate limp calling pre but the raise was so small and I had position and healthy stack to out manouver the villain. Suppose this doesn't make up for the fact that I dont have the intiative and a potentially dominated hand?
