Counterfeited?

Postby Damien » Jun 26 2010

Damn it, that's not the ten I wanted. Easy fold? My hand is miles away from the nuts, but given the action, what size river bet would you be calling and would you be value betting if checked to you?

I actually check behind on the flop to keep the pot small. But on the river it's an easy call to be honest with you. I just can't see how this can possibly be a fold. :/

You're willing to risk your tournament life that he didn't just river a flush? His line doesn't look like a boat, but it reeks of a flush IMO. It actually even could be a boat if he had intended to c/r the turn. I'm still in decent shape if I fold... by calling, are you expecting him to be on a complete bluff? It seems like at best, we'd be splitting the pot. I guess it's a pretty sweet board for him to bluff on the river and try to get me to fold a straight or trips, but if that's the case, would he really be pushing? It sems like a half pot value bet would both look stronger and put less of his chips at risk if he doesn't have the goods.

I think you need to CB this flop. Villain often has a small pair here so a CB will fold a better hand.

As for the river:
If villain has any skill at all then this is an easy fold. AK or even Axd is smack in your range as played so pushing 3 x pot is brilliant IF he has a boat and way to risky if he hasn't. You'll need a solid read of villain being a suicidal bluffer to call here.

Thanks Prim. That's a lot more along the lines of what i was thinking. FWIW, villain did not have a boat, but he did have the flush. As you said, I think you really have to know that villain is a maniacal bluffer to even consider calling this. Rad - did you think I had the straight flush?

Why get sarcastic with my opinion? I'm telling you what i would do.

I've seen players do this as a ploy to make you think they have a flush and overbet the pot, knowing you are going to fold a strong hand.

No sarcasm intended. Based on your original response, I thought it was possible that you had actually mis-read the hand (admittedly, it would have been a silly hand to post :) )
