Bad preflop?

Postby Newbatron » Jul 11 2010

I flop top and bottom on wet board and dont know how to interpret a min raise after taking the lead. Villain had been passive post flop, generally limping than raising but had been fairly active on a lot of flops. Could be up against a set or good draw (FD or OESD) as they could perceive my hand to be a weak ace. What are actions here? Shuv an hope he doesnt snap with a set or A4, call and shove any turn that doesnt complete a draw?

Anyway the main reason I posted this hand is to gauge opinion on my preflop play. In these micro stakes I usually play very snug and TAG. Usually only limping when im mining and with SC in mid/late pos. When I limp here I wanted to see a flop multi way hoping to make the nut flush or a wheel. Is this a bad spot to see a cheap multiway flop with 35-40bbs or should I be fold/ raising pre? Cant help but think I got myself into this problem through limping pre.

Fold pre. Failing that, raise.

You're miles ahead here on the flop. I probably ship.

Fold pre. And there's just no way in hell you can get away from this. I'm just re-raising to 1k ish and calling a shove.

I would 1) fold or 2) raise PF....and the reason for either of those two actions is to not get into difficult decisions post flop. You got one of the flops that you would hope for if you limp, and you are most likely the best hand here....I would 3 bet to 800 so draws arent getting proper odds and fold to 4 bet shove

Foding to a 4-bet would be way too tight imo. If you are playing A3, whether it be raising or limling, then this is an excellent flop for A3. No way i'm folding. Villian could easily get it allin here with AK or AQ.

Pre-flop
I do not like playing weak A’s but if I am going to it will be A2s through A5s and I would raise to 2 to 2.5 blinds. I do this (1st trying to steal) (2nd to define the hand better getting a good A to raise me out of the pot) and (3rd to reduce the field).

Post-flop
I also think you are in the lead vs. a medium A’s. It is possible he has trips or A4 but forget about that you have to commit to the pot. You want to take the line that will get his money if he has a medium A.

His min raise seems like a feeler bet or a monster.

Sometimes I will call the flop and check raise the turn. The flush draw should keep him betting on the turn with a medium A. It is risky to take this line and give him a free card with the draws on the board but the reword is greater and I do not think he has a flush draw.

I am not folding to a shove. I will bust out with this hand.

Personally I prefer to fold rather than raise because the blinds are still small. Limping would only be an option if this table always allowed it, otherwise the default line is fold.

I'm less sure he has AK/AQ because he would probably raise preflop with that - its more likely an A with a middle-ish kicker which may fold to too much heat but since it could also be a line for a flush draw or 65 for an OESD I think we need to raise as above.
