AA oop tough hand

Postby kyokusanagi » Aug 22 2011

Hi everyone,
reviewing my hand history on mtts i found this hand played 2 months ago and is very though spot in my opinion
Setup buy in 55 euros level medium low
blinds 40 80
9 players

[SB] Hero (3955)
[b][BB ]X (4990)
[1] Y (5215) fold
[2]Z (3150) fold
[3] A (4265) fold
[4] B (16400) calls 80
[5]C (3530) fold
[6] villain (3370) cutoff calls 80
[b][But] D (4140) fold

kyo88 :Ac :Ah Initial Pot : 120
i decide obv to raise for value to 400 hoping to take 1 call and i m pretty sure B will call me and i ll play for stacks, both B and villain are on the loose passive side, strangely B folds and villain calls i think his range is pretty wide any pp, any 2 broadway, ace rag, any 2 suited 1 gapper maybe 2....

Flop :Qd :8s :6d Pot: 960
i think he can have hit this flop with qj qk qt maybe q9 a flush draw or a middle bottom pair , Pot: 960, i decide to bet 620 with the intention to go all in on any non diamond turn, if he raises all in i am not happy but i have to call even if i think he has often a set , i think he is not the kind of player that semibluff, anyway he calls ,the pot is 2200 and the turn is :Kd that is probably the worst possible card in the deck , i check and he checks behind, river is :5c i check and he fires1100 with 1000 behind that screams of value, i think and fold.I am pretty sure is a good fold because in my opinion he has at least Kq here but very probably a flush....the question is could have i done something better before?I think for example to go all in directly on the flop he has 3 pot left and i think that he always calls with a queen or a flush draw, so isnt terrible....or maybe a blocking bet on the river but i dont like that beacuse if my opponent raises i wiuld be forced to fold and i dont think he calls with worst hands after the :Kd falls....

I don't think you can play the flop much differently. You could go with a more or less pot-sized bet, but I prefer the size you used. You can't shove for 3,500 into a 900 chip pot.

I'm also not a huge fan of the blocking bet here against a thinking opponent. Furthermore, he only bet half pot -- what kind of blocking bet are you considering, like 700 into 2100?

However, I'm toying with the idea that you should call the river. He's giving you 3:1 and you look like you've given up. He could very easily be doing this with the naked :ad or he might be betting a hand like KJ or QJ for value. I agree that he is often taking you for value with the flush, but you only need to be good 33% of the time here and I think its pretty close. My instinct is that you are best somewhere right around the odds he is laying.

Haha. Of course. I shouldn't answer badly formatted posts when I'm tired. That makes it even more of a call. Surely its a call at 25%

You have better than TPTK, and you are getting 3-1, and the turn was checked through. So you have to call IMO. The stack to pot ratio was only a bit more than 3-1 on the flop, so it's a call. You won't win half the time, I know, but one reason to check the turn is to snap off bluffs. LIke nside said there are hands where he has the :Ad. You look weak, and a scare card came on the river.
