A Chrisjp hand

Postby mchilger » Jun 29 2010

reminds me of a hand Chris posted for the Senior's event.

9 players remaining in a live tournament in Colombia. 5 spots make the money. The blinds are 4-8 with 400 ante. I have about 80K. Real, tight solid player in EM position raises to 20K - first time I've seen him raise. Next, loose player who calls a ton of hands - calls. I have 99 and muck.

This is a hand I would never, ever fold online, but it made sense to me in this situation. None of the players at the final table had any inkling of short-stack play and it was relatively easy to pick spots with little risk. I mucked and raiser showed JJ and the caller 55.

I know I'm in my groove when I start making plays live that I would never make online.

This tournament had an amazing structure. 67 entrants and we had been playing for 8 hours when I busted in 8th place (A4 in BB vs SB trap of KK). So I got a lot of live practice in which was my main goal. Every bluff worked, every laydown worked - was really on top of my game. The competition wasn't great, but that is really what I needed as you run into players in the main event who don't play like you think they ought to :)

I'm ready for the main event!
