$3 FO- ITM w/ K9s on button

Postby MXRider » Jul 30 2010

sb had recently been moved to my table and only had one orbit on him where he has pretty much folded everything. BB is a nit and I'm willing to go with it if he shoves. Both call and we flop the NFD and BB leads out. I want to get sb out of the way so I raise committing myself to bb and then sb c/r. Are we committed to this hand now?

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, 3.3 Tournament, 500/1000 Blinds 125 Ante (9 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Hero (Button) (t39100)
SB (t47688)
BB (t13023)
UTG (t35261)
UTG+1 (t17717)
MP1 (t11523)
MP2 (t22176)
MP3 (t44447)
CO (t36219)

Hero's M: 14.90

Preflop: Hero is Button with KImage, 9Image
6 folds, Hero bets t2400, SB calls t1900, BB calls t1400

Flop: (t8325) AImage, 8Image, QImage (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets t3000, Hero raises to t9000, SB raises to t20050, 1 fold, Hero?

We obviously have no fold equity so do we go or fold?

yeah I push

we are assuming they both come along and you have just got about the right equity... you will cringe if, as is likely, one of them has a set.... but you gotta go for it...

if you are bust then you hey that is poker but if you win then you have massive rampage value and then it is real poker time

btw I like pre and flop plays very very much... I play this hand exactly like this almost all the time

Pretty sure BB has folded.

I think this is a fold. If SB has a naked Ace, you are 35% to win. If he has a set you are only 25% to win. You need to invest 28k more to win 48k meaning you need 36% equity. I really don't see how SB can be check-shoving with less than an Ace often enough here to overcome the times he has two pair and a set.

I'd go along with Nside and fold. You're essentially drawing to a naked flush draw with very little hope of being against a worse draw. It sucks to invest a quarter of your stack and fold but you're unlikely to have the right equity to go with this.

I like the preflop raise to pick up. BB doesn't bother me here but I'm wanting the SB to fold as I don't like his stack size and call range. If SB calls my raise I fold flop. I don't think I want to stack off to a draw like this as he obv likes his hand. If SB folds pre then I shove BB on flop for sure. Although winning this hand on the draw will increase your stack alot if you hit.

Hard to put him on a set unless it's 88. Big aces are also likely to reraise pf. Most of the time I'd put him on A8-AJ, or a worse draw. This is a $3 tournament though right, so I'd probably throw some weird hands into his range. So, overall, I think you could argue that it's +EV to shove, but only just. You should pass up smaller edges when risking your whole stack in a low buy-in tournament, unless you're short. You're going to get better opportunities than this to win chips.

A smooth call of his donk bet on the flop wouldn't have been terrible. He's giving you the right price to draw, and calling may invite the SB along for even better odds. Plus, the BB has already invested almost half his stack in the pot and is pretty much committed anyway, though the action obviously scared him off. I am usually more inclined to play my hands more straight forward when playing a $3 tournament, taking the favourable pot odds they are offering me, and try to hit my hand. Your fold equity is usually a lot worse than you think it is.

I royally messed this hand up admittedly. If I had been heads up with bb, I don't mind my raise at all, but with sb still to act, I didn't think of what I would do if he were to shove or raise.

I did the absolute worst possible thing here as I was completely in dumb land when he c/r and I flatted it......then called his turn shove. durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I couldn't put him on a big A or 88 so figured him for A8 or a different draw and he did have A8 and knock me out.
