How Scared of the Straight Flush should I be....

Postby ftdoc2b » Dec 17 2003

This is a hand I played tonight.... and I was wondering if I should have slowed down just in case of the straight flush draw against my Ace high flush. Should I have slowplayed? Tried for the cap bets on the turn instead of the betting war on the flop? Also feel free to add the Player on the button to your fish list at Party Poker... Made 35BB off him in under 2 hours with river calling play.

I would never worry about a straight flush in this situation. If that happens, the poker gods are against you. MCH

I generally never worry about a straight flush either, however, given this board and the betting action if you are up against a sensible player and they raised your river bet you would have to give it serious consideration given that you have the Ah and that they capped the flop and only called the turn.

They would have to be worried about the Ah with two players left on the river so what would they raise with?

On the river if you faced a raise you might be better off going for the overcall (against a sensible player). If an overcall is not possible because the raiser is the middle player and the late player folds whether you 3 bet is not straight forward. Against a sensible player I would just call a river raise because although it is unlikely he has the straight flush there is not a lot else that makes sense.
